    Kate Middleton Dazzles in Alexander McQueen Dress, Conjures Up Image of Princess Diana

    Kate Middleton in a black velvet McQueen dress.The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry put on their formal attire for Monday's Sun Military Awards at London's Imperial War Museum. Kate Middleton, 29, revisited her wedding dress designer for the occasion, wearing a stunning black velvet gown by Alexander McQueen as they honored 11 members of the United Kingdom's armed forces for their heroism during wartime.

    The dress featured a fishtail hemline and ruffled sweetheart neckline perfect for a future princess, while the slim silhouette seems to have proved once and for all the Middleton is not pregnant. Also noteworthy is the strapless design which showed off Middleton's shoulders-typically covered up with more conservative sleeves.

According to Grazia, Diana was 19 when she wore the black strapless design by Elizabeth and David Emanuel, who later designed her wedding dress.

    Elizabeth Emanuel has said of Princess Diana's dress, "The transformation was incredible. She arrived looking like the nursery school teacher she was, but now she looked like a movie star." It's safe to say Diana's black gown sparked a fascination with her sartorial choices not unlike our current obsession with Middleton's. Last year, Diana's dress sold at auction for over $300,000 to a fashion museum in Chile.

Black Prada heels, a black clutch, and the sapphire and diamond engagement ring that once belong to Princess Diana completed the festive holiday ensemble. Only time will tell if Middleton's dress will hold up against the original.

      I beg to differ Peta. I do believe that Princess Diana matured significantly over the years,and by the time she reached her 30's, she came into her own. Diana had to do it under the glare of cameras, in public, as the Princess of Wales since she was 19. Luckily, Middleton got the chance to grow up under much less pressure and scrutiny BEFORE she married at age 27. People do change, and I think the comparisons to Diana are largely favorable; they are both kind and compassionate; they both have a good sense of style and want to look well; they both have endured tremendous personal gossip and criticism of their person in the press with grace; both were elegant and beautiful in their own right.

        Thats because I know thats the best I could ask for with someone like that. I don't have the money to keep either one on a permanent basis. I'm just saying what I would be willing to do. Money attracts money. Rich women don't give middle class men a second glance. You have to be dripping with millions to be able to climb in the sack with something like that. They use that good looks to live a life of luxury. They're not stupid. They know they can have anyone they want, and so they go after the very richest. Its just as easy to love a rich man as it is to love a poor man. So .......

        Kate has William behind her, Diane had no one, her piggy husband was seeing his girlfriend/now wife. Charles, his now wife and the Queen put Diane in her grave. I depise them. Can't stand to look at them.

      Both so beautiful..Diana went through so much, I was endured to her because she continued to survive despite all that was thrown at her.. She was only human after all.. She would be SO very happy to see her son married to someone he loves so much!

        U R a small-minded person. Diana found out as a young girl that she was not loved as a wife, but only as a "choice broodmare" 2 B used 2 produce future heirs. Charles' "woman" ( Camilla) was not available, nor considered acceptable 2 B mother of the future King's children) but Diana knew that C. was most important in his life. How would U liked finding out U were used like that?!

      The Duchess is obviously very beautiful and charming in her own way as was Princess Diana, but to compare them is unfair. Each woman has a 'presence' all their own and that should not be negated by comparing them.

        Its just cuz she married the prince. You know the media...they just wont leave her alone, they'll hound the heck out of her and print anything. Then ya have people who are jealous.. women who are cattie,..men with over grown male hormones, and over opinionated morans, who have to knit-pick her apart, complain about everything she does or doesnt do. She's been examined, judged and sentenced as a failure as a person..accused of being a gisha girl, etc etc. 91/2 month into her marriage. No fuss at all... same old bull as always in these comment pages.
        AS IF THE PRINCE ISNT IN CONTROL? AS IF THE QUEEN, PRINCE CHARLES, WILLIAM, THE ROYAL ADVISORS HAVE HAD NO SAY IN WHAT SHE DOES OR DOSENT DO, SINCE THE DAY KATE AND WILLIAM EVEN GOT CLOSE TO BEING SERIOUS ABOUT EACH OTHER????       Why does the press keep calling her Kate Middleton?! It's Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. I don't remember people continuing to call Diana "Diana Spencer" after she married.
