Katy Perry and Madonna Heart Grills, so Are We Looking at the New Nail Art?

Katy Perry's not only making headlines with her new single, "Roar," which also closed this year's VMAs, but the leopard, Ungaro-clad singer also turned heads roaring in a bedazzled grill on the award show's red carpet.

And after debuting her own grill in Italy while promoting her fitness center Hard Candy, Madonna posted a selfie on Insta this morning with the caption, "The Grilzz Are here to. Stay! So There! If you Don't like don't follow!" [Ed. note: no word yet on whether grills affect ability to type on a phone. - JR]

Listen, we're totally down with new beauty trends and people that break from the mold. But this one's got us scratching our heads. Not only is M's pic a little crazy (and by a little, we mean a lot), but are we the only people who find mouthguards obnoxiously uncomfortable?

That said, nail art kinda had similar "Is that really necessary?" reactions, only to spawn a beauty craze that SELF staffers still obsess over. But what do you guys think? Horrible? Amazing?
