Kim Kardashian is Photoshop's latest victim

I won't lie to you, readers. I have been staring at the images at left, on and off, for at least two hours. They depict celebreality star Kim Kardashian, pre- and post-airbrushing, for a feature in Complex magazine, and they are, to me anyway, beyond fascinating.

The release of the original pic (far left) was apparently a mistake. Some bloggers found it on Complex's site as part of an "exclusive photo gallery" and it was quickly taken down. The second, thinner, smoother image of KK is the one that ran in the magazine.

What's striking about these photographs is what the retouchers decided to change. For starters, they lightened Kardashian's skin all over, and they took out any texture that made it appear in any way like real skin. (Can you see how her thighs look human in the first pic and like a Barbie in the second?) Next, they shaved a few inches off her thighs, waist, and maybe her arm; added a bit to left breast; and cleaned up the weird bodysuit thing she's wearing so it's less fringey. It's not dramatic, in fact, we've all seen much worse, but the question is: Why is this necessary at all? She's on the cover (and is no doubt famous) because she has a gorgeous, curvy, irresistibly sexy body. It's a body, from everything I've read-yes, I've read Kim Kardashian stories-this woman works hard to maintain. Why is it unthinkable to leave the damn picture alone? To show the model as she really is, flesh texture and all? The original image is not offensive, it's not ugly, and it's not sloppy. Wouldn't a men's magazine want to embrace and highlight a woman's natural curves and not Photoshop her into a glossy fembot?
    I just do not understand.

      LOL
I READ SOMEWHERE THAT HOLLYWOOD developed this "THIN" woman thing for certain reasons.
The OLD boy network that ran hollywood happened to be sporting TWO INCH PENISES, and it was IMPOSSIBLE to make love to a WOMAN with a nicely endowed ass because the ass would take the two inches they got and NOTHING left to do the penetration thing.
      Only DOGS love BONES.
Real MEN love the curves of Kim KARDASHIAN, BEYONCE KNOWLES, and all the Curvatious babes out there.
Bullimic looking women are sick, and nedd to FEED themselves.
If women STOP agreeing to starving themselves to death for the fantasies of TWO INCHED MEN,they will fare better.
Give me curves or give me death.

We are all trying to get a tan down here in the South because it is considered beautiful to be tan, so Now, Kim is getting airbrushed lighter, what's up with that? What are her origins? Isn't she Italian or Greek, Maybe Mediterranean Or Turk? Even if and as far as I know that's beautiful, think belly dancer. These are very beautiful women, why do Indians want to be lighter, they aren't going to be Blond and have Blue eyes too, Oh no that's right blue Contact lenses and Hair Bleach can turn just about anyone in to an Caucasian.

Oh my gosh, she does NOT look good in the left photo. She looks like an oinker! Fat and lumpy. Stop the PC nonsense. What a bunch of sheep!

One comment says "I don't think she looks 'that bad'. That bad? Do you HEAR the BS?

Drivel all around. yes, men like the huge implants. and the botox.
      .
They do NOT like cellulite. And young men do NOT like women who weigh more than they do. It's threatening and not fun for sex. And you KNOW it. More fat, less feeling.
      .
Sorry fatties.. just another thing you can't monetize.

Really bizzare. She has a thin model's hirdo and makeup, but a buxom body. It just doesn't fit. I think she looks best with hair down and natural. I still don't think she is all that though.

Why is it that women must look so fake? You never hear any stories like this of men. How are girls supposed to grow up thinking they must look like these 'things' to be attractive? And it's disturbing how many guys actually think this is real.

look. let's call it what it is. the closer you get to "black" you gotta get back. the closer you get to "white" you'll be alright. nothing's changed in america/european culture. the elites have always and continue to use "skin color" to keep you and me (everyday average people), the peasants, divided and at one another's throats. every generation, those that fall for it, continue to pass on the unjustified hate to their offspring. and as a result it is embedded, woven into the fabric of the culture and it's instutions. media, academia, corporate, government, religion, etc. kk is beautiful in her onw right, heidi is beautiful in her own right, halle berry is beautiful in her own right, vivica fox, megan fox, lucy lu, etc. non-white people dominate the population of the planet. white people number approximately 10% of the planets' population. there has been an unjustified "serious insecurity" going on for centuries. the non-white populations have not tried to destroy or eliminate the white population, so why the deliberate and overt "proping up or hyping" of white and the denegeration of color is a question to be pondered. uummmmm! many of you will not see the relevance of my comments to the topic of the article, but i expect that. after all, many of you are who i'm referring to in my comment. just know that my over-arching theme is that the goodness and beauty of humanity is in all shades. as a man, know that i love all of you ladies.

well, that's the long and short of it

I understand the desire for some minimal photoshop on magazine pictures. Even models aren't the glorious perfection that is shoved in our faces... they have bad skin days, hair days, and *ghasp* bloating like every normal human being. Like I said, MINOR re-touching is understandable. However, when you carve up a model's body and change her skin tone, that dances over the line of ridiculous. Maybe, just MAYBE, when the models a magazine hires or actresses/stars asked to pose aren't already the ideal said magazine is searching for, it's time to realize that the idea of beauty that the industry is trying to uphold DOESN'T ACTUALLY EXIST! Reality is in the left picture, and she is beautiful.

This ties is with a couple comedy type shirts I've seen. One said "body by photoshop", One with a guy that has a beer-belly saying "I may be fat, but your stupid if you really thought George Clooney was your "bestie" from 1-3am on Instant Messenger". You can't help (at least I can't) but alugh at those.

I came across this article from the vaseline skin whitening article and the "controversy" it's causing. Too funny it came out after the passing of Michael Jackson. Human nature is like that. Some are content, some want something different, some want less, For everyone person that wants to have a lighter complexion there will be extremes. We all certainly know there can be artificial darker complexions from bronze to crazy colors like "Nightclub Doritos". Or what I've recently heard called "OLC" Oompa Loompa Complexion" .

But hey, that's what so amazing about the human body, For example our heads can turn left and right. For the ability to not have to look or look. go figure.

These color changes on photos are rather mild when you consider what TV Guide magazine did a few years ago. They had a picture of Oprah's slightly narrowed head on Ann Margaret's body on the cover, remember that? At the time Oprah claimed she was not aware that TV Guide had done it. Someone discovered this because the outfit Ann Margaret wore and the pose, had appeared someplace beforehand. In fact, when this was discovered, that picture of Ann Margaret wearing the outfit was released and compared with the Oprah shoot. You might try googling it to see if you find it.
