According to the Centers for Disease Control, AIDS is actually rising in two alarming categories: 17 to 24-year-old women and 45 to 60-year-old women. The number of women living with HIV has tripled since 1985, and it is the number-one cause of death among African American women between the ages of 32 and 34. We know this because Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper teamed up with MAC Cosmetics on its latest AIDS awareness campaign to spread the word and fight the good fight through Viva Glam lipsticks.
The news may be new, but MAC's championing of AIDs awareness is not. Since 1994, the cosmetic brand has partnered with high-profile women to bring the disease to the forefront of our consciousness through Viva Glam lipsticks. And this year's spokeswomen are perhaps the most visible and vocal yet-Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper. Two lipsticks-named for the two musicians-hit stores today, with 100% of the proceeds going to research and education. Viva Glam Gaga is lustrous light blue pink evocative of 80s, while Viva Glam Cyndi is a light reddish coral color. Each retails for $14 and can be found at MAC Cosmetic counters and at maccosmetics.com.
