Makeup Tricks To Play Up Your Best Features

Learn to play up your best features with our tips!
Why You Should Invest in a Makeup Brush

Makeup can be a bit daunting for those of us who would rather just grab the closest clear gloss and black mascara and run out the door, swiping them on as we go. But, just a few tools and secret tips are really all it takes to play up your best features.

If you're that girl who has gorgeous baby blues or Angelina Jolie lips but aren't quite sure how to showcase your best assests - read below for tips to drawing all eyes on you.

    Define Your Eyes

If you have a gorgeous eye color (like baby blues, emerald green, or even a deep brown) bring out that color by using shadows in complementary shades. Use suede tones for blue eyes, navy shades for brown eyes and purple to make green eyes pop. We're loving Essence's vibrant shades, an amazing (and cheap! $1.99 each) European line that just launched stateside.

    Lengthen Your Lashes

Eat Your Way To Clearer Skin!

Long, luscious lashes are a sure-fire win to turning heads. The key to having great looking lashes every day is to ALWAYS take off your mascara every night. This helps with clumping. For flawless removal, we love Lumene Sensitive Touch Eye Makeup Remover. For mascara, apply L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Blast Mascara to strengthen your lashes while also lengthening them.

    Plump Your Lips

If you already have gorgeous lips, make sure that you play them up by always adding a light color or clear gloss for day and a dramatic color for night. We love Shu Uemura's Gloss Unlimited Lip Gloss in Golden Apricot. If your lips need a bit of a boost, try a plumping gloss such as Laura Mercier Lip Plumper. If your lips are a bit chapped from the seasons changing, soothe them with Vaseline at night - it may not taste great, but the jelly moisturizes like nothing else!

    Contour Your Cheekbones

Taylor Swift is The Newest CoverGirl Spokeswoman

For those lucky ladies with great cheekbones, make sure to define them correctly to draw attention to your amazing face shape and avoid a stripey look. Sweep blush on the apples of your cheeks and take a shimmery powder of your choosing (we love Bobbi Brown's Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick) and dab it in a horizontal line above the blush. Blend the powder outward.

      wow guys okay:
cara: yes, I wore glasses for years (I have contacts now though) and makeup with glasses will actually make your eyes look even bigger than if you just had makeup on :) don't worry, people can still see the makeup, especially if your eyelashes are long or if you did your mascara well, then it'll appear as if your eyelashes are touching your glasses lens lol.
Denise: Just go for it! Believe me, they'll be jealous once they see how gorgeous you look! I mean believe me, a haircut can make a HUGE difference. You won't regret it! Just try to find a place where the people are nice so they'll make you feel good about the changes your doing. Plus,it may be better to go alone, that way you won't have to worry about what your friend is thinking and just react on your own to your changes. You should do what makes you happy above all else.
Mysterious: I dont think that she meant that boys don't like girls with makeup. She would have gotten contacts if she thought that. I think that her losing her eyesight makes her nervous, after all, that is what happens as old age approaches. She didn't mention anything about being ugly with them on. And she said "the long way" or path or whatever, so she obviously doesn't think that she's at death's door.
Jessica: There's an entire ehow article on that lol. I would give you the link buy my computer's acting weird, just google it. : ) and always go for complementary colors (the colors on the opposite on the color wheel) and don't be afraid to experiment with different shades!
Lets do it now..: thats def not true! everyone is gorgeous in one way or another! models always have to have strong facial features so that the can be captured on camera. you just have to make sure not to use dramatic eye makeup, instead you want to wear makeup that will soften your facial features and make them look more feminine :)
fatima: it's all about blush. Buy a blush palette with three different shades. apply the darkest shade right beneath your cheekbone (make sure that the shades are the right ones for your skin tone), the second to darkest above it, and the lightest directly on your cheekbone. This will make your face look slimmer, and remember that haircuts can achieve that as well. But round faces are cute! :)

question..my eyes are blue and green depending on hair color..tan etc..what do i use to play them up? can i use a combination?

Cara, wearing glasses does not mean you are on death's door.

I really hate people talking about wearing glasses as if it were the end of the world. It's why kids get made fun of and called "four-eyes" and why people used to say "Boys never make passes at girls who wear glasses". It's also why a lot of people refuse to take proper care of their eyesight. Wearing corrective lenses is just not that big of a deal.

I have worn corrective lenses since I was 4. It says nothing about my attractiveness (though I did marry an optometrist).

Forget the lancome mascara. waste of money..does not do anything and for the price you can get a few maybelline great lashes which is still the best

      Gryphon,

I know, wearing glasses, & being over 30, do not make me dead/unattractive/unloveable...however, like I said, my eyes are the ONLY thing I like about my face, and so yeah, the fact that I now have to wear glasses to see anything past the tip of my own nose, is a big deal...and I know, the fact that I feel myself getting old (and maybe getting past my prime) is a big problem signifies that my life is really not so bad. And I never said it's ok to tease people for being different, I'm absolutely not ok with that....I'm especially not ok with anybody teasing a child. And good for you that you married an optometrist, I hope he's a good family man & I didn't mean to imply that having to wear glasses makes a lady less of a woman, less attractive, less of a lust object (although I really doubt anyone has ever lusted after me, glasses or no, but that's just me, that's maybe not every woman's experience). I just wanted to know how, if at all, the fact that I have to wear glasses affeccts how I make up what I believe to be the only half decent looking part of my face...well, ok, maybe I also was looking to vent about the fact that I'm not still 15 and firm, but I had no intention to insult or belittle anyone else for the way they choose to present themselves to the world.

Ok, so I like my eyes...maybe other people don't think my eyes are my best feature, but they're the only thing I like about my face. They're a deep brown, and I usually do some sort of purple shadow with either black or grey liner. I recently got glasses (yes, that's right, I'm in my 30s, starting that long, slow march towards the rest home), and is it still ok to play up my eyes, even though I'm not sure if other people can even see my eyemakeup past the glasses?
