Making Over My Makeup Bag

Spring has definitely sprung in the New York area. I've finally got the sunshine and warmer temperatures I could have only dreamed of this winter. Spring is funny though, the nice weather makes me want to get outside, but at the same time it makes me want to clean out my space inside. I certainly have been bitten by the spring cleaning bug. I went through my closet, my paperwork and yes, my makeup bag.

Going through my makeup case revealed that I had quite a few items that were old or I never used, so out they went. It was very cathartic. After purging my makeup bag I stepped back to survey my work. Sigh... even with the clean out my makeup bag was still bursting at the seams. I don't have a lot of makeup, a couple eyeshadows and liners, foundation, mascara, brushes and lip glosses is about all (I guess to some this may be a lot). Moreover the case was a complete pain to look through in the mornings because everything was just a jumble, I would spend more time digging through to find a lip balm or eyeliner than applying the stuff. Something had to be done...So I decided I needed a different system to hold my makeup. The pink polka dotted french poodle adorned case, however cute, was not keeping things in order.

First I assessed what annoyed me most about my current makeup storage. I couldn't see what was inside, things fell over and shifted around in the soft sided case, lastly the proportions didn't work with the items it was supposed to contain. I work part time at a storage and organization store and when I was working one quiet afternoon I looked around the store for a solution. I found most options too big or bulky to fit under the small sink cabinet. I was about to give up when I found this Medium Snapware 3 Layer case for $9.99. It was the perfect size. The layers allowed me to organize by type of makeup and frequency of use. The clear sides make it easy to see what is in each layer and the small handle on top makes it convenient to tote around. The bonus was I had extra room in the bottom layer so I moved my razors, nail polish and hair accessories which had been stored in various spots in the cabinet. Now everything is all in one place, yay! This solutions seems to work for me, I will see if I can keep it neat. Check out my before and after pictures below. How did I do? It looks better, no?
