Michelle Obama on the cover of Vogue: That's the best you can do, fancy fashion mag?

The long anticipated Michelle Obama Vogue cover is out and we are (sigh) kind of unimpressed. What's going on, Vogue? You have a bazillion dollars to produce a photo shoot and all you can think of is to put our first lady in a boring pink dress and have her posed awkwardly over the side of a beige chaise lounge? I mean, I'm not suggesting in this day and age (or ever) it would be a good idea to glam-bot the president's wife in some nonsensical couture, but this is the very magazine that not so long ago transformed Hillary Clinton into a regal, fashiony goddess. We know they can do better. This cover could be from Good Housekeeping and that is not what The Devil Wears Expensive Crap/Vogue is supposed to be.

The inside story, however, is pretty amazing. Michelle Obama continues to inspire us with her grace, intelligence, and no nonsense approach to almost everything-including style.

    For example, this quote:

"I love clothes," she admits. "First and foremost, I wear what I love. That's what women have to focus on: what makes them happy and what makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion."

Yay, Michelle! Forget trends or as Vogue says elsewhere on its cover "Every Look That Matters," Ms. Obama has (what we feel) is the ideal attitude about clothes- and it's refreshing and positive to hear it articulated by one of the most famous women in the world.

    Also loved this:

"We want entertaining in the White House to feel like America, that we are reminded of all the many facets of our culture. The Latino community, the Asian-American community, the African-American community.…Hip-hop, spoken word-we want to bring the youth in, for them to hear their voices in this... We want to make sure that our young people remember and understand what classical music is, who some of the great American artists are…"

And this quote made me cry, just a little:

"We learned in our household that there was nothing you couldn't talk about and that you found humor in even some of the toughest times. I want to bring that spirit of warmth, openness, and stability to my task."
