Is This the Next Trend Everyone Will Be Wearing?

Lately, I get the feeling I'm being watched. Not by a person, but something a little more wild. Tiny kittens, galloping horses, and woodland creatures. And no, I'm not nuts -- I'm just talking about the animal fashion craze that's hit an all-time high. You know, shirts, skirts, and dresses covered in penguins, owls, or frogs?

This got me thinking. If in fashion "one day you're in, the next day you're out" (thanks Heidi!), what animal will be "in" next? I decided to do a little research, and here's what I found …

1. Peacock Print

It's obvious -- designers love birds. (Yup, more birds.) Seriously, they can't get enough. Year in and year out, whether it's owls, parrots, or flamingos, at least one feathered friend always makes it to the runway. This season, according to fashion expert Stephanie Rygorsky, it's all about the brightest bird in the bunch. "I think the peacock is going to be everywhere this summer," she says.

2. Woodland Creatures Print

This fall, think Bambi when you go shopping. Woodland creatures like owls, deer, and wolves are another popular animal-inspired print on the runway during 2012's Fall Fashion Week. If you can't afford the runway looks -- and let's face it, who can? -- stores like Forever21, H&M and ASOS offer affordable options for all the fashionable critters out there.

3. Horse Print

The horse trend was one of the first animal-inspired prints to become popular with both designers and real girls. Everything from handbags to dresses to shoes can be found with equine-friendly patterns. This season, however, there may be a slight twist on this trend -- think horns. According to celebrity fashion editor Keylee Sanders, unicorns (along with other mystical creatures) will be huge this fall. "With all of the Snow White/fairytale influence, I feel that we are going to see the fantasy side of designers come out in a sexy dark way," she says.

4. Cat Print

Celebs like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have totally embraced this feline trend, and have been seen sporting a variety of cat-related clothing. Even Jason Wu's collection for Target included a bunch of black cat prints. And once something's hit Target, you know it's big.
