Macy's has tapped Nicole Richie to create a capsule line for its Impulse department. Called "Nicole Richie for Impulse," the range will contain 20 to 30 pieces and is set to land in about 100 stores and online next September.

Richie has been co-starring with Macy's representatives on NBC's hit show Fashion Star, so this announcement does not come as a total surprise-the company's buyers get to admire her stunning style on a weekly basis. Also, her QVC range and House of Harlow and Winter Kate labels have been wildly successful, which means her pieces will probably sell out fast.

"She's got a very definitive look, very free style and bohemian chic, and our collection will definitely pay homage to her style," Martine Reardon, Macy's Inc.'s chief marketing officer told WWD. "But we are being very careful to provide what the Macy's customer wants. She really likes clothes with versatility. She likes to dress it up and dress it down."

Since Nicole was known as a reality show celebrity before she launched her own collection, this collaboration definitely boosts her industry cred-the department store's past partnerships include some of the worlds best designers, including Kinder Aggugini, Matthew Williamson, Karl Lagerfeld, Doo-Ri Chung, Giambattista Valli and most recently Alberta Ferretti. Are you glad that Macy's went with a more contemporary choice this time? Or do you prefer that they highlight high-end international brands?
