Last night was, for many of us, one of the most thrilling nights of our entire lives. Today, I feel stupid with joy and pride (not to mention residual champagne). It was a perfect night for Democrats; John McCain was gracious and eloquent, and the entire experience felt historic and special. I'll be honest, the only thing I was concerned about was Michelle Obama's dress. From far away, on a tiny TV, it looked like two splashes of red paint on an all-black. Ack! Don't ruin this otherwise perfect moment you dumb red-painted black dress! But then, this morning, I closely examined the whole situation. I found out the dress is from Narciso Rodriguez, the innovative' American designer who created Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's wedding look. And, once you take a look at it up close (see the slideshow above), you realize it's actually really cool and stylish. So, while I may not have worn a cardigan with it, I think Mrs. O made a fine and, once again, kind of exciting and unexpected choice. Whew.
The thing is, it's actually fun to see what Michelle Obama is going to wear. You can tell she really loves clothes (look at how she coordinates the whole family in one color palette! It's freakin' adorable) and you can also tell she knows what looks good on her and puts a lot of effort into pulling together an entire look. I predict that, along with a very charismatic president, we're in for 4 years of impeccable, interesting style from our first lady the likes of which haven't been seen since Jackie Kennedy. There, I said it.
