    Octavia Spencer Wears 3 Pairs of Spanx!

    Octavia Spencer wears three pairs of Spanx when she has to walk the red carpet.

    The Help     star, who has been cleaning up this awards season with trophies from the Golden Globes, SAG, and Critics' Choice Awards, admits she gained the "illusion" of an hourglass figure by layering the celeb-loved shapewear.

    "I was not a Girl Scout, but I try to be very, very prepared," Spencer said. "I triple Spank. Which is not good. Spanx really, really work, but you don't need to overdo it."

    Melissa McCarthy has also been known to pile on Spanx, which she and Spencer bonded over in an after-party bathroom. Spencer told Ellen DeGeneres, "I was being pinched in places that I didn't know it was possible... I said, 'Oh my God, Melissa, I'm about to die. My Spanx are killing me. She said, 'I just went to the bathroom and took mine off.' "

      i always double spanx ... if u power panty no crotch u'll be able to pee all nite long ... oh and dont wear regular panties too much bulk .... but thats only 4 special occasions

      I find it slightly ironic that the same women who say they're proud of their "curvy" figures and put down people who suggest they need to lose weight are the same ones stuffing themselves into junk designed to make them look slimmer.

        When have you heard Octavia Spencer put down anyone. For one, people need to stop worrying about another person's weight. She's a grown woman who can weigh whatever she wants. Chill out.

        I was actually referring to McCarthy and a few other actresses known to wear spanx not mentioned in the article. To be honest, I have no clue who Olivia Spencer is, as I've never seen her before this article. But I've seen several articles talking about how McCarthy is so comfortable with her body. I see the same trend in non-celebrity women who talk about how their "curvy" figures are so attractive and how thin women are "skeletons" or "clothes hangers", yet they wear this junk to work every day. It doesn't make sense to me.

      Octavia isn't the first celebrity to wear more than one layer of Spanx at a time. Beyonce has ffrequently said that she oftenwears one pair over another.

      It's not ironic, it's what I kind of expected. If these women really were proud of their figures, they'd go without Spanx. Surely with all their money, they can pay a seamstress to make a dress that fits them without needing Spanx

      I had an ex-roommate who did that. She was 5'8" and 290 -- with three or four 'girdles' on, she'd manage to whittle off about 90-100 lbs, visually. I always felt bad for the guys she'd bring home, though. I'm sure they thought they were getting some pretty girl with an hourglass figure only to have it all come off and be left with someone who had so many fat rolls that it looked like she had three sets of boobs on both her front at back!
