Amid the 83rd Academy Award show's frenzy of A-list stars, questionable song-and-dance numbers, and predictable winners, three shades stood out.
Droves of stars dared to match the carpet this year: Jennifer Lawrence strutted in wearing a ruby Calvin Klein tank dress; Penelope Cruz showed off her post-baby bod in a scarlet sequined L'Wren Scott gown and Anne Hathaway donned a crimson Valentino Archive frock for outfit number one.
Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis put this regal hue's full spectrum on display: Blanchett in a structured, pale purple beaded Givenchy number; Portman in a rich Rodarte number and Kunis in a soft, drapey pale lavender gown.
Neutral hues made a quiet statement the red carpet, with budding style icon Hailee Steinfeld in a pale, tea-length Marchesa gown; Halle Berry in a structured, mermaid Marchesa frock and Mandy Moore sporting a whimsical, jewel-smattered Monique Lhuillier dress.
