Question: What really helps with under-eye puffiness? There are so many products out there that claim to help, but I never see any difference. Is surgery the only real option?
Answer: The reason our eyes get puffy is because of bad circulation -- whether you're tired or feeling bloated -- which causes blood and fluids to pool under our eyes and puff up. That said, some of the simplest things have helped me alleviate it. First of all, I like to store my eye cream in the fridge. Applying a cool cream (whatever the brand) to that delicate area will fire up your circulation. Gently "tapping" it on with your fingertips (like you're playing a piano) also helps get the blood flowing. If you have more time, try doing some light cardio exercise (skipping rope, a quick jog, tackling the stairs) for at least 10 minutes. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's very effective -- in fact, your whole face will look and feel less puffy when you're done. Now if your puffiness is chronic and you're still not happy with the results, then, truthfully, the knife or needle will give you the most dramatic results. But before you consider surrendering, at least try using makeup to draw attention to another feature (amazing cheekbones? pouty lips?) that you love.
