Q & A with Geren Ford and 3 Style Rules to Live By

    By Jenny Feldman, Glamour magazine

It takes a major passion for fashion to quit your day job in advertising and launch your own label, which is exactly what LA-based designer Geren Lockhart did 12 years ago. The results from her Geren Ford line and her newer lower-price Hawks collection for Urban Outfitters have slowly crept into the closets of unsuspecting cool girls everywhere. See some of Geren's latest duds and get to know this globe-trotting lover of the arts!

    My line all started with
a pair of pants. They were a way to solve a problem in my own life, and then the world around me wanted them too!

When not working, I'd rather be
in Paris or Hawaii. Paris, for obvious reasons. There is no way to not be inspired and awed there. Hawaii, because it's the closest and furthest island experience from the west coast where I live-and it's always 80 degrees.

    I'm currently inspired by
the artist, Louise Bourgeois. The color palette and prints from my holiday collection are a tribute to her, as well as the spider details that tie to her larger spider works.

The three style rules I live by are:
Always put on mascara and curl your eyelashes. Good shoes make an outfit. And wear clothes that fit.

My favorite color combo right now
    is navy blue and black.

    I can't live without
    my Chanel J12 watch.

    Things I collect
include art books, bar accessories and textiles.

    My biggest splurge ever
    has been my house.

I would love to see Kate Moss in my line. Rachel Bilson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Heidi Klum and Nicole Richie already wear it!

    My bargain shopping secret
is vintage. I love the thrift stores on 17th Street in New York City.

    Pepsi or Coke?
    Coke for sure.

    Dogs or cats?
Most of my life has been cats, but my amazing pup Quinn has completely converted me to dogs.

    Tea or coffee?
    Coffee-specifically, strong cappuccino.

If I had to compete in Miss America
    my talent would be gymnastics.

    I can't believe I ever wore
    my hair with a perm!
