There are products I don't mind investing in: moisturizer, conditioner, concealer. But I get slightly bejiggity every time I have to buy replacement razor blades. They cost approximately seven thousand dollars for three blades, no matter what razor I'm using at the moment. Here in New York, the drugstores stash replacement blades behind the register to prevent them being stolen--that's how valuable these slivers of metal apparently are. (It's a lot of fun having to relay which blades you want to a disgruntled teenage-boy cashier: "No, I wanted the Schick Quattro eight-pack, not the Schick Silk Effects. No, not the Intuition...")
Anyway, I started wondering if I should rebel against the fancy-razor system and go disposable. I haven't used them in forever but figured there must be some advanced ones out there nowadays. Sure enough, when browsing the razor section at Rite Aid, I spotted cute new Venus and Quattro disposables.
A peek into my medicine cabinet--I happily splurge on skin products but get pissed shelling out for the razors.
I bought the pink disposable Quattros shown here, for the sake of comparing them to the non-disposable version I'd been using. But here's the crazy part: They cost MORE than the regular Quattro does per blade: $2.67 per disposable versus $2.50 per blade! And I have to say, they didn't work as well. They feel too lightweight in my hand and seem to dull in just a couple days. But I didn't get any blood-gushing cuts (which, if memory serves, was the most serious drawback of disposables last time I used them regularly, which would be back in junior high).
Guess I'll continue to shell out for replacement blades. Which razor do you guys think is the best one out there? Does anyone use the super-cheapie disposables (like the Daisy), and if so, are there any major drawbacks?Petra Guglielmetti
