Should Miss California lose her crown over topless photos?

Just days after the whole world found out that her boobs were paid for by pageant officials, now topless photos of Miss California Carrie Prejean have surfaced. And, this morning, the 21-year-old beauty queen responded to the new scandal: Prejean believes the naked pictures were released as an attempt to belittle her Christianity.

I mean, really? Seems to me that Prejean and her Christianity posed for the pics, she says when she was 17. And, while the images circulating right now (reportedly, more revealing shots have yet to be released) are not of the naughty Vanessa-Williams-in-Playboy variety, they're not Sunday-school appropriate either.

But are they inappropriate enough that Prejean should lose her crown? According to pageant officials,Young Miss California, baring it all, almostYoung Miss California, baring it all, almost yes, possibly. In a statement given to the Associated Press, pageant spokesman Roger Neal explained that, "Prejean has run afoul of several sections of the 12-page contract that prospective contestants were required to sign before competing...The contract contains a clause asking participants whether they have conducted themselves 'in accordance with the highest ethical and moral standards' and if they've ever been photographed nude or partially nude."

As for Miss California, she released the Christianity statement today, explaining:
"My comments defending traditional marriage have led to intimidation tactics that seek to undermine my reputation and somehow silence me and my beliefs, as if opinion is only a one-way street.

"I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently, photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid website that openly mocks me for my Christian faith.

"I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be. But these attacks on me and others who speak in defense of traditional marriage are intolerant and offensive. While we may not agree on every issue, we should show respect for others' opinions and not try to silence them through vicious and mean-spirited attacks."

    Yikes.

Absolutely, but not for the reasons you'd think - she should lose the crown for subjecting people to pictures of her skinny rear end in that bikini - completely nude pictures would be atrocious.

I think that that girl needs to lose that crown she does not deserve it if she posed for those pics but she is right modles modle for any thing that will give them cash.

She's a model. The picture looks like an underwear ad. It's not like she was prostituting or doing a full frontal nudity shot (these pics have yet to be revealed I guess). And please re-read where I said that if she did lie she should be punished as according to pageant rules, just like everyone else.

      Jad,

Yes, they're wrong and no, I don't have to respect a person who voices a discriminatory statement. Why should I? She has a right to say what she wants, so do I. I'm just calling a spade a spade.

Discrimination is any way is wrong. You can't justify treating people as second class citizens because you believe some religion says so. The Bible was used to "prove" that African Americans should be slaves before the Civil War. Say the Bible says that now and expect to get things thrown at you.

I think hiding behind a religion to discriminate in any way is wrong, and contradictory. Besides that, this is the U.S., we have a Constitution that gives us freedom and tries to separate church and state. My personal view, marriage is a contract that the state recognizes. Restricting a person's freedom to contract based on anything but incompetence, incapacity, infancy, etc.is illegal.

I'm not saying down with church. Chruches should be allowed to marry who they want. I'm still gonna call a person a bigot and so forth for voicing discriminatory speech, because that's what they are. It wasn't that long ago African Americans and Whites couldn't marry. Most people find that ridiculous now and rightly so.

Not that i care if anyone goes topless...but there are rules in this pagent stuff and other public "jobs"...i'm sure at 17 she was competing in pagents she knew she shouldn't do that...ego my friend...So yes she should be fired she knew better...It's like asking if a cop should get fired for smoking pot...I'm all for it being legal...but it's not so yes he would be fired...Until these laws and rules change...anyone that wants to play in that game needs to follow them...

No, they should keep her, her hyprocrisy, and her silicon.
And the anti-gay group which made her their spokesperson should not be allowed to get rid of her, her hypocrisy, and her silicon, that easy.
This is your 'face' - deal with it.

I personally think that if she broke the rules then yes she should lose her crown... no amount of publicity should remove her from the rules set before her.

EFFENJEN, I think it's about her being a hypocrite. You're absolutely right..everyone has their own opinion, but from my standpoint, don't say one thing and then do another. It's wrong. They BOTH go against "God's word". So why is one better than the other? It's not.
I AM ALL FOR GAY MARRIAGE because I refuse to be one of those backwards @ssholes that try to tell people who they can and can't love. If 2 grown @ss adults (same sex or not) want to get married, so be it. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, right? Not in this f*cked up country. The US is about 50 years behind.
And Jules, don't read it if you don't like it. It's not about the "liberal media"..it's about some dumb b*tch who's opinions contradict themselves. That's the bottom line here. She's nothing but a fame wh*re, a hypocritical "christian"....pathetic.

This pretty young lady should not be condem for what i believe as she has explain to be her teen pic n it wasn't intentional, more so she is a christian and in the beauty world: i think she should be appreciated not to be drag down remember this no one can curse who God has bless. Please appreciate this beauty and see God in her. Friends Jesus loves you. The Bible says the sons of men are waiting for the manifestation of the sons and daughters of God, are you ready to live for God or to pull down the sons and daughters of God? God loves us and wants the best for us in our careers provided we are born again not compromising in this sinful world. Ilove you friends, more so i love you Miss California Carrie Prejean. At this point I will like to say that she should not be disqualify. Thanks

No. Nudity is art...at least it is to me. But she needs to stop talking now. She is being a publicity whore.

Cinders, you have an excellent point, but there are religions that discriminate against women. Is that okay? They openly purport their beliefs. I don't know of any religion that presently discriminates on skin color or ethic origin, but at one time Catholics and Protestants discouraged marriage between the two religions. Was that bigotry, stupidity, discrimination or just the times, based on old ways?
I don't think we are giving Ms. California a pass, I think we all want to pass her up and have her quietly disappear. But we still have to be respectful.

Absalutely! She is meant to be a role model and role models do not set good examples by going topless!

Just to hop in a minute. I talked with a fellow Californian and asked about why Proposition 8 failed.
She said that California is over 50% populated with people who don't have any religious affiliations.
(Look it up, she's correct, it's actually 53%.) So that half could have very well come out to vote and have passed it. She went on to say that it wasn't necessarily "Christians" per se that kept out legalizing gay marriage, but a combination of religious-oriented people, male voters and California's many ethic groups who still cling to their old ways about homosexually. Also businesses were not comfortable with having to provide additional health insurance and benefits to their payrolls. So let's be honest, there still is a lot of work for Californians to do. Hammering just the Christians with discrimination isn't the answer.

Isn't it illegal to photograph a woman under 18 topless/nude?? If so the photographer should be the one in trouble not her.
    • MrsKlingonPasadena  •  3 years 1 month ago
I just looked at the photos and I don't see anything wrong with them. Where was the nudity? I say this whole thing is ridiculous!
    • amanda  •  3 years 1 month ago

Some people have alluded to this fact, but no one has come right out and said it. So I will.

The Bible is racist, sexist, and homophobic. There are still people who use it to support their racist and sexist beliefs. However, it is AGAINST THE LAW to discriminate against people based on their race or sex, but not based on their sexual orientation.

We can not allow uneducated people to utilize an ancient, obsolete document that was supposed to teach people how to love their fellow man to instead use it as a tool for hate and discrimination.

It doesn't matter that someone prefaces a hateful statement with "No offence, but...." It's still hate. It's still ignorance. It's still wrong.
