Temporary Tattoos: The Next Big Trend for Spring?

    How to Wear Winter Florals!

Anything Chanel seems to garner the sort of attention that results in immediate obsession and desire. The latest is a collection of transfer tattoos that first appeared on their spring/summer 2010 runway. For all of us who want a tattoo, but can't stomach the needles or the permanence, Chanel has graciously provided us with a chic alternative. The tattoos contain floral designs, dangling chains, and the signature Chanel logo, just in case you forgot exactly who you were wearing. The transfer tattoo is likely to bring out your fashionista rocker side, so if you feel the need to head bang or walk with some attitude, carry on; you are, after all, wearing a Chanel tattoo. The tattoos will be sold at Selfridges starting on March 1, so if you were debating getting a real tattoo, save it. This one might be better.

Chanel not really your style? Here are some of our other favorite tattoos that were showcased on the Spring/Summer 2010 runway.

    1. Rodarte

    Rodarte
went tribal for their spring/summer 2010 runway, as models had their exposed body parts painted over in bold tribal-like tattoos. Enticing and alternative, it makes you look at tribal wear in a whole new way.

    2. Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier brought a surprising gangster air to his spring/summer 2010 runway. Models wore tattoos everywhere from their chests to their faces. The tattoos gave the petite models a tough look as if given the opportunity, they would beat any annoyances to a pulp.

    3. Marchesa

For those who don't have the patience for temporary tattoos, Marchesa has just the thing. As part of their spring/summer 2010 collection, Marchesa brings tattoo hosiery to the masses. All the look of a real or temporary tattoo, minus the mess.

Unless you are too young to get an actual tattoo, temporary ones are just silly; they totally miss the point. Tattoos are more than just fashion statements (for a great deal of those that have them, anyway). The commitment of having something permanent and meaningful on your body is the point, and makes the "pain" worth it. And just to throw it out there to whoever would label people "filthy, classless and quite stupid" for having tattoos...grow up. Please.

"What's the statement? 'Former Prison Inmate?'...etc?"

Just because people may have tattoos, and at the "real" ones, unlike these pasties doesn't mean we were former inmates, don't be so ignorant.

i like the Marchesa one, it looks more realistic then others. and mims what you said was kind of offensive, just because someone has a tat. doesn't mean they 'want to be gangster' or have been a 'former prison inmate.'

What does a tattoo on the neck represent?

I LOVE this! Temp. tattoos are a fun way to bring in the spring this year. Done right, tattoos (temporary or otherwise) can be a beautiful and edgy addition to an outfit. Those who would call people with tattoos or the idea of having one "filthy, classless and quite stupid" are as ignorant as the words they have used to describe this spring fashion trend. I would also urge the people who get bothered by this sort of thing to stop following fashion. Fashion is an expression of the times and is often edgy drastic.

I don't mind the Chanel design, but it reminds me of the rosary anklet tattoo people were getting for a while. Tattoo hosiery on the other hand, if done correctly, can be quite cute--and it's a fun way to add a little extra to one's outfit.

If you want to look like you have a tattoo, get a tattoo.

"I want to trashy, but only for a little bit."
    • Jaime  •  2 years 4 months ago
The fake ink work doesn't even look good on those models, not that those models were particularly attractive, with skeletal frames and ashy skin. Thank God we have these high-up designers who have so much money that they don't even have to be in loose connection with reality when they make up these trends that they parade around on freakishly emaciated women. If we had seen this anywhere else other than on a runway, or fashion mag, we would be like, "ew, gross."
    • Dietra  •  2 years 4 months ago
I think they look good and are meant more for the runway and not real life usage.

Mims - I guess I must be trashy because I have tattoos too. Guess what? I can guarantee you I have a higher paying job than you and have never been to prison. Ignorance must be bliss.

I dont know how much these will cost, but I am sure it will make me sick. First off it is lame and will last one or two showers?

The ones for the Rodart show are pretty cool. I like those. I don't think this is a bad idea for their runway shows. This is the fashion industry.... How often do you see people in "real life" dressed like they're on the runway? Granted many of us have tattoos in real life, but come one. These that we see here are strickly runway. Well for the most part anyway. They are street inspired, made for the runway. And for the rude ignorant comments about tattoos. Not everyone that has tattoos are classless and stupid. GET A CLUE! many people you see on a daily basis, and maybe even work with have tattoos. You'd be surprised!
