The Best (Yep, Best!) Face Moisturizers

I don't know about you, but my skin is in crisis mode. Between the dry airplane air from my holiday traveling to the equally dry air produced by the heater constantly running, my skin is alternating between flaky dry and super-oily (I think it's trying to compensate). And don't even get me started on breakouts.

Now, these tips will certainly help me restore some balance, but what I really need is a good moisturizer to get rid of the flakes, control the oil and help my skin calm down. As a 54 year old woman, finding a balance between enough moisturizing with shine control has been tough. My skin is so oily that I've given up trying to find make-up that lasts more than 2 hours. On the other hand, the skin around my eyes is kind of thin and tends to show fine lines. The upside is with skin this oily, I'll hopefully have fewer wrinkles later in life. Last week, I found Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream at The Body Shop and it works so well! Not overly drying, it lasts a long time for shine control. At $16.00 for 1.7 oz., it isn't cheap, but a little goes a very long way. It comes in a jar and is kind of like a gel. I'll buy this product again. Hope this helps!

I actually love Burt's Bees facial moisturizer (the one w/beeswax, not the carrot one). It is simple and effective.

Oil of Olay and Pond's cleansing cream. Age 52 and look about 10 or 15 years younger than all my high school friends!!

Vaseline is the best...and the least expensive!

I like "DDF Light Dew Oil Free" at Sephora for $38.00 expensive, but a little goes a long way. I had the sample size and lasted me months. Only one I can wear without leaving my face icky. Also, doesn't make me break out.

Topix Replenix cream CF for winter & Topix Replenix serum CF for the summer. Are good choices.

Forget all of these!! THE best moisturizer is simple Vaseline. I had horrible dryness around my eyes from the cold and one of my coworkers used to sell cosmetics. I begged her to tell me what the secret to moisturing was, and she recommended this to me. After just a few nights the difference was drastic.
At about $4 for a 13oz tub- can't beat that!!!

The best moisturizer I've ever used is pure, organic coconut oil. It's anti-bacterial properties mean I never get breakouts, my face is hydrated with a chemical-free product and it smells delicious. Coconut oil blends in wonderfully and isn't greasy at all--it even makes my makeup go on smoother, too. It might sound crazy but just search "coconut oil and skin" and you'll see what I mean.

Burt's Bees Aloe & Buttermilk. It says body lotion but it's light enough to use on your face. All of Burt's Bees products are awesome and I'm so glad I discovered them!

Been using Olay Total Effects for about the past 10 years, (I'm 35) and get compliments on my skin all the time. I love it!

I'm with Michelle S. I tried every moisturizer and could never find the right one for me. I had been using coconut oil for my hair and after reading about it online decided to give it a try on my face. AMAZING!! it's all natural, has cleared up my skin, smells delicious and really works. My biggest fear was that it was going to make my oily t-zone oilier but it balances everything out. Try it and see for yourself... I'll never buy another moisturizer again

Hey Total Beauty girls, If you're gonna list commercial products (like Olay, sorry to say, which is good on price), please not that they are chuck full of cancer causing chemicals. I had to return a recent Olay product because I will not put parabens on my body. I use Dr. Haushka, the world's greatest moisturizer in my book. Yes it breaks my budget but so does getting cancer. Here's the two real questions: what are the GREAT chemical free AND cost-conscious beauty products? What are the chemicals we must absolutely NOT place on our bodies? Anyone?
