Platform shoes

have been all the rage, from high heels that provide a hidden boost or the '70-style flatforms that regained popularity this past spring. But many women aren't fans of the clunky footwear, and they'll be happy to learn that simpler classic styles may soon replace them. WWD spoke with "Sex and the City" fave, Manolo Blahnik, who adamantly dislikes platform shoes. According to WWD, Blahnik said with great satisfaction that "Those 'furniture' shoes are finally over, or starting to be."

This may be a bummer for ladies who love the extra height, but it may be a blessing for our aching feet which could definitely use a break-and not an ankle break. Another lady who needs to lay off the heels: Victoria Beckham. The former Spice Girl has become known for her treacherous platform stilettos (even when pregnant, as seen in the royal wedding photo at left), but according to the Daily Mail she now has a slipped-disc and has been advised by doctors to lay off the sky-high heels.

We caught Beckham wearing ballet flats once last year, but apparently she was confined to the flat footwear because of painful bunions. After a lifetime in stilettos, maybe laying off the heels isn't such a bad move.

Would you be happy if big platform heels went out of style?
