My biggest beauty pet peeve? When celebrities wear clothes or makeup that totally wash them out. Take a look at this. Not attractive, right? I mean, she usually looks gorgeous, but that is not a good look for her.
Then I talked to celebrity hair color expert Jill Kirsh, who said we all make those mistakes once in a while (fiiine, even me). Luckily, it's really easy to avoid looking washed out. All it takes is finding the right clothes for your hair color -- who would've thought, right?
So check out Kirsh's tips below to see what clothes you should be sticking to. Or jump right to it here by clicking on your hair color:
Black hair:
While it would be nice to have a perfect hourglass figure like Dita Von Teese, girls with black hair can look just as stunning in crisp, clean colors with a blue base. Think cobalt blue, royal purple, true red and emerald green.
Warm brunettes:
Colors with warm undertones -- think orangey-reds, teal, olive green, and eggplant -- help enhance the warmth of pretty brunettes like Jessica Alba. On the other hand, something like this will totally wash you out.
Cool brunettes:
Look for neutral colors that have a gray undertone, like dark brown, navy blue or charcoal gray. It's the perfect complement against Courtney Cox's so-brown-they're-almost-black hair color.
Warm blondes:
Warm blondes like Kate Hudson look best in jewel tones and colors that have an orange or red undertone. For example, you would want to go with turquoise or aqua, instead of a dusty or pastel blue. And you can't go wrong with black, as long as you follow these rules.
Cool blondes:
Platinum, pale blondes like Taylor Swift look great in blue-based colors, like this red gown. If red isn't your thing, you can also rock colors like mint green, baby blue and dusty pink or lavender.
Warm redheads:
Here's proof that redheads can wear red. Julianne Moore looks rosy and glowing in this ruby red shirt. The key is choosing a brick-based color, not a blue-based one (see how this totally clashes with her hair?).
Cool redheads:
Earth tones and warm browns are a great complement to rich red hair like Debra Messing's. The best colors for you are chestnut, rusty brick, caramel or olive green. Just make sure you stay away from this color, whatever you do.
- If you really love your hair color, you should make sure you wear the right makeup for it too.
