If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen that last night I wrote:
@NikkiOgun Just left a bra fitting at @shopjournelle and let me tell you it's life changing! Every new year should start this way!
I was not exaggerating ladies. When I was offered the opportunity to get a bra fitting with Carrie Brightman, manager of Journelle lingerie store in Soho, I hopped on it because I hadn't done so in years. And let me tell you, it was a seriously eye-opening experience. Want to know what I learned?
These are the essential bras you need:Courtesy of Journelle
Two or three seamless T-shirt bras: These are the ones that you wear most often, your everyday bras, if you will. Opt for ones that come in nude or black.

One strapless molded-cup bra: This will especially come in handy for summer. Get one in your size (do not size down just to get a tighter fit). Look for a bra that has silicone on the inside band so it won't slide down. As for color, buy based on what you wear the most.

Greens and blues seem to be trending this season, but I have a special place in my heart for the neon hues that were super popular last season. Brightman recommends no less than three, after all, they'll bring a smile to your face every time you wear them.

Other tips I learned:
If you find a bra that fits really well, buy two because you'll inevitably want to wear it every day, but you shouldn't. The average bra lasts for about six months to a year so you don't want to wear out your bras before their time.
Get a bra fitting every time you buy a new one. "Women change shape constantly for many different reasons," says Brightman, so you should do it regularly. And by regularly she means at least every three to six months.

It may seem obvious, but you can be different sizes in different brands (much like you are in your everyday clothes). There is such a thing as "running small" when it comes to bras. So while you can buy them online, it's really a good to go in and try things on.
Hope these tips help, gals! Will you get a bra fitting this weekend? You're most likely wearing the wrong size (lord knows I was), but you'll never know until you go in and get fitted!
