Today in Madvertising: The most offensive fashion ad we've ever seen

In the eight months that we've been on air, so to speak, we here at Shine have covered all manner of of idiotic, offensive, and downright belittling-to-humans fashion topics. But the ad at left might be the worst thing we've seen all year. Are you kidding me, lawyer-turned-designer Duncan Quinn? This is how you plan on selling suits? By dragging a dead-looking, underwear-clad model across the roof of a fancy car? There's really no explanation for this. It's not cool. It's not edgy. It does not make us want any man we know to wear that creepy guy's outfit. It is instead an insulting, disrespectful, and outrageously degrading image that overtly promotes violence against women.
You, Mr. Duncan Quinn, should pull this travesty right the F now and apologize for being a barbarian.
Until then, and even after, you're in the running for our special Shine award for douche bag of the year.

Sorry for posting so late, just found this from a Vogue link.....this man should be the one being dragged by HIS tie on a busy freeway. This is probably the most disgusting "fashion art" I have seen. I realize his intent was to provoke a discussion and he'll be able to hide behind the badge that "It's ART", but for this to be in any any women's magazine should only provoke outrage from the audience. This is supposed to be an ad for men's suits? Perhaps, it is a reflection of the attorney-designers view of women in general?

My apologies for commenting NOW 5-5-2012,I just found this article coming from the vogue lead article of upping the age FINALLY of their baby models. the picture above is so insidious he should had been removed from his job along with everyone at that shoot who allowed that. is that actually modeling underwear or killing and rape ?Gives the wrong direction to young men and makes women angry and for those into that ..well??? nuf said. just plain sick and I commend this author of this article and calling him out . Bravo.

My god... for real?!? I don't even believe this made it out of the print shop. May Duncan Quinn never sell another thread and may his entire enterprise go down in spontaneous flames.

Oh my god. I just lived the expression "jaws dropped open" the entire time I read this article. DUNCAN QUINN, YOU ARE DISGUSTING. And for the art directors and photographer who took this shot and thought this was tasteful, you all should quit your careers and need counseling.

I think what makes this so disturbing isnt the subject matter so much as the way it is presented. I mean if a woman was being drug across the car in a sexy stylized manner i can see it taking it as art. But the way she is laying limp as if dead, and the dispassionate look in his eye i find highly disturbing. Not to mention the whole thing is reminisant of a man showing off his kill after he has been hunting. And for those of those saying it is "art", this was supposed to be created to sell suits, not sit in a museum.

Really sick, and so are so many movies and other forms of so-called entertainment. Whatever the community will tolerate, so appreciate the discussion.

I cannot agree more there. It isn't cool, and it's not edgy at all.

I don't understand why any self respecting woman would do the ade.

I don't generally make comments, but was surprised to read the comment of "it's seriously not that bad. get over it ." , especially coming from a female. Really? Please tell that to the victims of Ted Bundy, Phil Markoff and Hilter. They also liked to wear suit.

To all those shocked, this sort of of advertisment has been arounf for years. I wrote a paer on ithe subjuect in 2008,in which, the models wore spiked heels and were in the trunk of a car, as her feet (spiked heels ) dangled from the trunk, in the shadows of a tall dark male, shutting her in. Her face was the color of death, her torso twsted to sell the shoes. wow, women rights, DV, and making the $$$, is all at the expense, of all our younger women and the ones who are older who still hate thier self image or beauty, and that the pictures say, its ok., if you don't get this or behave like that, you'll get ???? This is so deep,

where the heck did you find that at, italian vogue?

I think the Shine would have been much smarter to NOT print this DOLT's photograph.

This IDIOT, is no worse than HELMUT NEWTON's photographof a woman with a SADDLE on her back, on a bed in an upright fetal position!!

And, freakin VOGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! printed that stupid image over and over and over and over.

If these moronic publishers would stop printing this S&^T!! then maybe these so called fashion photographers would NOT be making a name a based on these heinous images!!

I agree with Jennifer. Thank you for a wonderful article. This is just sick.

It doesn't make any sense. I'm assuming it's "controversial" to make sure you remember the name, but not in the sense where you'll want to buy it. It's just disgusting.

Is this where we are? So disappointing!

I know a lot of women who with the "right guy" would love to be in that exact position. For the rest of you haters... stick to your chick flicks and mini vans.

then they need to think about why they have been so moved by the media's take on what is sexy.
        violence isn't sexy. Period.
