Trend spotting – The peplum skirt appeal

The peplum skirt trend can be traced all the way back to the 40s and has faded in and out of fashion for quite some time now. Usually attached to a sleek silhouette, the peplum skirt is a stylish contrast to a cinched waist and it plays off the shape of the hips beautifully.

Style tip: If you have a slender figure, you can get away with a dramatically flared peplum skirt, it'll give you the right amount of shape and curve without overwhelming your figure. If you are curvier or full-figured, you can still pull off this trend. Go with a more fitted peplum. This will allow you to show off your curves while emphasizing and accentuating a cinched waist.

Test driving the trend - I guess I can't really say the peplum skirt is a trend in my wardrobe as I've had a couple of dresses and skirts in this style for quite some time. I've had the skirt above for about 3 yrs and it's served me well both in the summer and fall months. I think of it as a classic piece that can be worn to work or dressed up for a night out. I also love to pair it with shocking and interesting colors like the emerald green above, which always makes it pop.

So what do you think of the peplum skirt…Is it something you're willing to try?
