User post: How Did You Find Your Hairstylist?

In my previous post I mentioned I was growing my hair out to donate. I also mentioned that my hair was painfully overdue for a trim. I know a trim is essential to keeping strands split free and healthy, so what's keeping me away from the salon? Well the truth is I am currently without a stylist. About a year ago the stylist I had been seeing faithfully for the last five years left. She was having a baby and wasn't going to be returning to work. While I was ecstatic for her, it sent me into salon withdrawal. Who is going to cut my hair as well as she did? My hairstylist understood my hair, knew what my hair would do, or would not do. Sometimes I would walk into the salon show a couple of pictures and say "I want to try something different." My stylist in return would clap her hands excitedly and talk to me about what she could do to create the look I was going for.

It took me a while to go back to get my hair cut, I waited until my ends were screaming for mercy. I chose to go back to the same salon that my other stylist worked at. After-all I had been going to that salon since I was a child, and the owner promised to find me someone terrific to cut and style my hair. So I went, they trimmed and cut some bangs, the result, was just okay. I didn't love the cut, it wasn't bad, but I didn't, pardon the pun, gel with the woman cutting my hair. I went once more after that when I needed a trim, but I truly would like to find someone new.

Which brought me to this quandary: how do you find a stylist? The thought sends me into a panic, it's like playing Russian Roulette with your hair! I wouldn't even know where to begin looking, I have been going to the same salon for such a long time. My hair is desperately in need of a trim, but I am trying to find a stylist I feel comfortable with for when I lop about 10 inches of it off!

I need some help, Shine readers, how did you find a stylist you gel with?
