User post: Product Review: Revlon Illuminance Créme Shadow

Happy Friday! Are you in the mood for a little weekend makeup experimentation. Have you ever used cream eyeshadow? Did you like it or was it just okay? I found a cream shadow that I really like, and I just have to share. Read on for my review of Revlon's Illuminance Créme Shadow.

Last week I went into the drugstore to stock up on the boring necessities, but after I finished checking off the items on my list I went over to the cosmetics to browse (of course). I was in the market for a new eyeshadow having just completed my yearly makeup bag clean out. I was browsing the eyeshadow sets, seeking for more color bang for my buck, when I stumbled upon Revlon's Illuminance Créme Shadow.

While I do remember Revlon having a cream shadow in the past the packaging looked completely different. The old packaging had an acrylic top that you could see the shadows through and a matte black plastic bottom. The new packaging is sleek shiny and sexy black. The only clear part of the case is the four domed sections revealing each of the shades encased in the set. In addition to looking more chic, the case also seems thinner and lighter than it's predecessor. The big reveal when you open the case is that the domed side is actually the bottom and the top has a mirror that is large enough to actually use when you are applying shadow on the go.

There are a variety of shades available in each set from the neutral to the bold and bright. I counted at least a half dozen options in the store and I am sure there are more depending on location. I opted for the set called "Not Just Nude" which has a light champagne color (shimmer), a medium bronze (shimmer), medium clay (matte) and a chocolate brown (shimmer). This range of colors could provide a multitude of looks and this set would be flattering to most complexions.

I have very sensitive eyes, usually by the end of the day they are burning because something got in them. Not with this set, I have worn on multiple occasions and never had a problem. According to the package Illuminance Créme shadow is Ophthalmologist tested, non-irritating and suitable for contact lens wearers and those with sensitive eyes.

The shadow can be applied with a fingertip or with a cream shadow brush like this one. If you apply with your finger remember to pat the eye color on gently, the tissue around the eye is very delicate and tugging a pulling could damage the tissue. The champagne color is great for all over the lid and I would concentrate this color on the area under the brow and the inside corner of the eye. The medium bronze and clay colors are lovely for a daytime look, just apply on the lid focusing more towards the outer corners of the eye. The chocolate brown is terrific for adding a smoky, sultry touch to the eye makeup, great along the lash line and the outer area of the lid.

The wear is just okay for shadow, granted this is a cream shadow which never seems to last as long as their powder counter parts. I noticed the creasing within an hour of applying the shadow, though it was most noticeable with the lightest color. The creases are easily touched up with a pat of the finger, I have not tried setting the shadow with a translucent powder, but that may increase wear time. What the shadow lacks in wear time it more than makes up for in the pigment and finish. The colors are strong only one layer needed to give your eyes a decent dose of color. Also the finish of Revlon's Illuminance Créme Shadow is smooth, creamy and gives off a nice luster. Something you would not be able to achieve with a powder eye shadow. The picture below is a natural daytime look I created with this shadow set.

I highly recommend giving Revlon's Illuminance Créme shadow a go, especially if you are looking for a different finish and feel to that of a powder shadow. I found that painting the eye colors on with the fingers added to the fun of the application. Illuminance Créme offers a variety of shades for a very reasonable price, retailing for $6.50.
