User post: Really Knowing Your Body Shape

I was recently wondering, what is my body shape? Do I really know what it is?

I stared at myself in my mirror. Ok, big hips, wide thighs. Tell me again why I can't wear skinny jeans?

So try this: you'll need a full-length mirror, snug-fitting clothes, a dry erase marker and a helper.

1. Stand facing the mirror, arms stretched up and out so they are away from your body.
2. Have your helper trace the outline of your body on the mirror with the marker. (Tip: It takes some tricky maneuvering; I had to rest my arm on my hip while my boyfriend did one side. Man, I need to work out more...)
3. Once finished, step back and study.

It totally opened up my eyes. I always thought I knew. But my self image was completely skewed! Here I thought I was this gigantic woman when in reality, I've been wearing clothes that are too baggy, making me look bigger!

Now when I read all those fancy magazines - InStyle, Vogue, Allure - I know what they're talking about! And I'm not thinking, "Yea, I can pull that look off...." -- when it's just not right for my body shape.

Oh, and I now know why I can't wear skinny jeans...Because I look like an ice cream cone if I do. No, thank you. hahah
