User post: So, I bleached my hair.

I'm prepared for the comment slaughter I'm about to endure. Anyway, here goes...

Over break, I decided to bleach my hair. No real rhyme or reason. It was a completely random idea. I'll preface this story with the fact that I have dark brown hair up until a couple months ago I had been dying reddish/brown. Oh, and I'm 22.

So, I went to Sally's Beauty Supply and bought "N Rage Bleach & Toner Kit" (http://www.sallybeauty.com/bleach-kit/SBS-240687,default,pd.html?cgid=Hair05-040) - $10. I didn't have to pick up my boyfriend from work until 7, so I had a good 2.5 hours to do this. My friend came over and we just jumped right in.

Well, 15 minutes after having the bleach in my hair, I get a text saying that they got done early and I needed to go pick him up. Ugh, really?... I washed it out of my hair, which had one side a brassy blonde, the middle was orange, and the right side was still brown. I head out.

Turns out, they still needed to work, so I sat in the parking lot until it was 7 anyway -- with tri-colored hair.

I worked up the courage to go to Walgreens and picked up the most potent lightner they had: L'Oreal Super Blonde Creme Hair Lightner (http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/l%27oreal-super-blonde-creme-hair-lightening-kit/ID=prod3647619-product) - $12.

By now it's 9:30 pm. I throw this dye into my hair and waited 60 minutes. And boy was my hair blonde. But not the blonde I was expecting. My hair was yellow. Like a vintage, costume-y yellow...

I went to bed disappointed. The next morning I made a bee-line (no pun intended) for Sally's Beauty Supply. They hooked me up with their strongest lightner combo and, this time, a shower cap to hold the heat in - $9.

So, by this time, it's technically my third bleaching in 2 days. Eh...

My hair got a little lighter. But it's still strawberry-ish. Not the light-bright blonde I was hoping to achieve.

Look, I know it's the worst thing I can do to my hair. And I'm sure you'll tell me that eventually my hair will break off and I'll be so unhappy with it.

And the only thing I can say is: It's just hair, my hair.
So, for $31, I got blonde hair, which is better than I can say for what I would've paid for any salon.

For those of you dreading doing this, it's not that bad. my hair does have some breakage, but it's not like my hair is falling off my scalp. It's exciting, and if you don't like it, you can always dye it back.

That's the best, worst advice I've ever given.
Happy New Year.
