VENUS Pro-Skin Moisture Rich Razer a Smooth Shave or an Epic Fail

When I found out that I would be testing Venus ProSkin MoistureRich razor, I was giddy. The reason for my excitement was the razor was designed and dermatologist-tested for women with sensitive skin, that is me to a tea. Maybe there will finally be a razor that I can use, that will give me a smooth shave without all the other bother. As it is I have been using an electric shaver for the last two years because I couldn't deal with the irritation, nicks, cuts and ingrown hairs associated with a traditional razor. While the electric shaver does work, I can't get the close, smooth shave like a regular razor, not to mention it sounds like a miniature lawn mower. So does Venus ProSkin MoistureRich razor rise to the challenge, read on to find out.

First of all I have to mention the package (you know me, sucker for packaging) Venus ProSkin MoistureRich razor come in a clear bubble encasing with sea-foam greens and blues splashed about. The appearance and the colors are all evocative of a summer at the beach. When I opened the package the illusion continued, a soft waft of cocoa butter scent, yup even smells like the beach. The ergonomic handle was easy to grip and control.

Venus states that "The MoistureRich shave gel bars are enhanced with a triple blend of body butters, which create a layer of protection for your skin with every stroke." The first shave with this razor was a little unusual since the razor has the shave gel built around the blades. Once the razor was wet the shave gel bars became, for lack of a better word, slimy and coated my legs with an aloe like substance while shaving. It was enough to coat the legs, but the razor still tugged at the skin and didn't glide as smoothly as I would have liked.

After the first shave I examined my legs they did appear smooth, albeit a little dry, despite the MoustureRich shave gel bars. I did notice some minor cuts around my knees, but I might attribute that to my handling rather than the razor. Did this razor prevent the irritation and ingrown hairs that it claims to, sadly no. After two shaves (I shave every other day) my legs were red and bumpy, with little ingrown hairs growing just under the skin. The subsequent uses of the razor proved that the shave gel bars effectiveness diminish with each use and by the fifth shave I needed to break out the shaving cream to help the razor along. I made sure to change the razor blade before the next use. The new blade still felt like it was tugging on my skin, even when using a light hand. I also noticed my skin felt tight and dry like it hadn't felt before. I did get a close shave in some instances too close by evidence of the nicks around my knees again.

Final verdict, if you have normal skin and medium to fine leg hair the Venus ProSkin Moisture Rich razor's all in one shave gel bars, pivoting head and three blades will probably give you a close smooth shave. However if you have sensitive skin and course hair like myself, don't expect any miracles. I really wanted to like this product, but I guess it's back to the noisy electric shaver for me. Personally I think laser hair removal is sounding more appealing.
