Victoria's Secret Under Fire for "Sexy Little Geisha" Outfit

In today's controversial underwear news, Victoria's Secret has removed their "Sexy Little Geisha" outfit from their website after Internet outrage and accusations that the undergarment is racist. The mesh one-piece comes complete with a matching fan, removable obi belt, and ... yup ... chopsticks. The underwear is a part of the brand's "Go East" collection, and the outfit's tagline is, "Your ticket to an exotic adventure."

Internet outrage first stared on Racialicious, a blog that covers topics of race and pop culture. Racalicious condemned the Geisha-themed outfit, saying, "It's a narrative that says the culture can be completely stripped of its realness in order to fulfill our fantasies of a safe and non-threatening, mysterious East."

And as tacky and tasteless as a "Sexy Little Geisha" mesh teddy that comes with a pair of matching chopsticks may be, at the very least Victoria's Secret was savvy enough to remove the outfit from their website once they saw the mob of angry, torch-weilding Internet commenters coming their way.

What we want to know is, has Victoria's Secret learned nothing from Urban Outfitters, a brand that seems to be in the news almost daily for angering customers with their controversial clothing. Recently, Urban Outfitters made waves for their use of the word "Navajo," most notably their "Navajo Hipster Panty," as well as offering a T-shirt that came in a color option of "Obama/Black." A mesh teddy that reduces the Eastern/Geisha culture to a sexual stereotype is similarly offensive and thoughtless, and it's not surprising that Victoria's Secret was met with a flood of outrage, and ultimately forced to remove the outfit all together.

What do you think? Is the "Sexy Little Geisha" outfit racist?
