Golden Globe Dresses: Knockoffs already available

Golden Globes knockoff dresses are already available from Faviana. Photo courtesy of the Today Show.Golden Globes knockoff dresses are already available from Faviana. Photo courtesy of the Today Show. The Golden Globes were just last Sunday, but the folks at Faviana have been hard at work creating replicas of the most popular red carpet gowns. The company is famous for their celebrity lookalike gowns (they quickly reproduced Kate Middleton's wedding dress), and if you haven't been able to get Angelina Jolie's Versace gown out of your mind all week, the Today Show presented a very similar design which can now be yours for for $258.

Faviana's celebrity recreations are very successful-there's an entire section of their site called "Dress Like a Star." But we wonder who seeks out these knockoff gowns. Would you want people to think, "Oh, she's wearing an imitation of that Angelina Jolie dress. She's even got the matching red lipstick on!" Wouldn't that be embarrassing? And wouldn't you want to be a tad more creative?

If you're looking for a slightly less obvious copy, Faviana has also created knockoffs of Jessica Alba's lavender Gucci dress (under $500), Charlize Theron's pale pink Dior Couture gown (under $400), and Stacy Keibler's red Valentino dress (under $300). Very few people could afford a $5,000 Valentino dress, but a classic red dress for $300 is doable. By the time the copies are available in six to eight weeks it's entirely possible people won't remember the original gowns they're based upon.

We also saw a segment on Good Morning America where a Marie Claire editor showed how to translate enviable Golden Globe red carpet looks for every day wear. Check it out below!

Nobody should get knock off dresses by labels/companies that do that. If at all anything, the original designer should be contacted to make a more affordable version of their creation. These companies are rip off artists. They shouldn't get any media attention at all. Shame on all of them for stealing designs.

While I agree with you that the companies that are copying designs are ripping off the designers, thereby copying someone's art, basically. I also think that the original designers are sometimes rip off artists themselves for the thousands of dollars that are charged for just one dress.

Well, you have a point to a certain degree. The dresses you see will usually be right off the runway or a one of a kind creation. The designer has a staff that will make the outfit. That costs money to pay your staff. Plus it takes hours to do it not to mention fittings. These designs are also not being made of cheap material. This is high end silk, georgette, chiffon, satin (and I don't mean prom dress satin that is $1-$2 a yard). Does the fabric need to be dyed? Embroidered or jeweled? What you see on that joke of a show Project Runway is not what goes on behind the scenes. You may want to look at a few films about Valentino, Givenchy, Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Dior to truly get the understanding of what it takes to make some of the gowns you see on the red carpet. So, no, rip off artists they are not, a little too high priced? Depends. That is the difference between a real fashion house and something you see at Sears. High end will not fall apart at the seams. It is made very well and can withstand the test of time. So just like that saying goes, as I close my comment, buy cheap, get cheap.

The #3 outfit is just horrible.

The Jolie day wear was surprisingly effective, but the track pants for model #3? Ugh. Let's just call attention to those hips and thighs.

If you were floored by her dress, why do you say you didn't think it was that great. I don't get it.

Why whisker lines on that white pants? I see some whisker lines on factory outlet jeans too, make buts look like when you put your lips inside your mouth.

I don't care whether or not a celebrity wore a particular gown or not, but I'd never pay for a knock-off. If anything, I would replicate it myself, since I would do a better job than some know-off company, and since I'm doing it for myself, I wouldn't be financing what basically amounts to copyright infringement (and as long as I never sold it, I wouldn't be infringing on the copyright either). That being said, I am REALLY tempted to try to make Angelina's dress. Not because she wore it. Because it is AWESOME, and I would want to make it even if it was like...I dunno, Hugh Hefner who wore the original, lol. :P

The actresses wish that they could have the knock-off dressess ahead of time for such "low" knock-off prices.

Competition is great for the economy, more power to them.

i would much rather have the original or at least the dress made by the same designer but...how many people actually have the money for that?

If I had such an occasion to wear it to, I might consider a knockoff or replica dress, but it would likely have to have been the most stunning thing I'd ever seen in my life. I'm not too keen on copying celebs, and there are plenty of beautiful, more affordable options in formal wear.

Jolie needs to find a new style
      ugly dress
replicas of celebrity dresses are so cliche it's sickening
whoever likes that dress should wear it to go dumpster diving
      SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!
