Where did you get your style? Readers share photos of their very chic moms
It's hard to imagine the woman who raised you as anyone other than 'mom'. But in fact, she's had a life and style independent of you, even if you never noticed before. Digging up her old photos is way to introduce yourself to other side of mom, a side you may not have paid attention to growing up, but can appreciate, admire, even envy, as an adult. It's her stylish side, and it's pure fashion inspiration.
I discovered my own style icon two years back, in my mom's old photo album from the late '60s. What struck me most were her outfits, which reflected not only the era but her independent, fearless spirit. Turns out my mother wasn't the only fashion icon. In the book My Mom Style Icon, I collected photos of mothers around the world from decades past. All were submitted by their awe-struck adult children who never knew such style inspiration was right under their noses.
In honor of Mother's Day, we asked Shine readers to submit vintage photos of their moms that inspire their own style today. We received some incredible submissions, like this photo from Shine reader Candai Bullard who shared a gallery of her maternal muse, Rosie, posing way back the 1970s.
