Google celebrates Vitamin C on September 16

Why has Google gone tropical today?

The popular search engine adds a new image to its ever-growing collection of holiday and thematic logos. A bright arched Google logo image boasts oranges, ruby red grapefruit, crimson strawberries and other produce. The artwork celebrates the 118 th birthday (post-mortem) of Albert von Szent-Gyorgi, known as the Father of Vitamin C, who was born on September 16, 1893.

Szent-Gyorgi was an Austrian-Hungarian nutritionist and winner of the 1937 Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine for the discovery of ascorbic acid, or vitamin C.

Vitamin C is an essential component in healthy human nutrition. Known also as ascorbic acid, it plays a vital role in disease prevention, healing and tissue growth and regeneration.

Have you had your fresh-squeezed orange juice today?

Raise a toast to the Father of Vitamin C with a tall glass of orange or grapefruit juice. Peel a delicious orange. Cut up a cantaloupe, kiwi, pineapple, watermelon or mango. Toss some blueberries, raspberries and strawberries into a spinach salad for lunch.

Why not go goo-goo for Vitamin C today, right along with Google?
