    Top ideas for dinner tonight

This tart contains a rich medley of colorful dried fruits, ranging from apricots to cherries. The lattice top pie crust is the perfect finishing touch for this creative version of a fruit tart. Dried fruit can be added to fresh fruit when preparing baked pies and savory dishes to enhance the taste and sweeten the treat.

    Ingredients

    • 1 recipe Pastry for Lattice-Top Pie
    • 1-2/3 cups apple juice or apple cider
    • 3/4 cup snipped dried apricots or peaches
    • 3/4 cup snipped dried pitted plums (prunes)
    • 1/2 cup dried tart cherries or raisins
    • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1 cup chopped, peeled cooking apple or pear
    • 1/2 cup broken walnuts
    • Milk (optional)
    • Granulated sugar (optional)

    Directions

    1. 1Prepare and roll out Pastry for Lattice-Top Pie, except roll pastry half for bottom crust into a 12-inch circle. Line a 10- or 11-inch tart pan with a removable bottom with pastry. Press pastry into fluted sides of tart pan and trim edges. Save remaining pastry for lattice top.
    2. 2For filling, in a medium saucepan combine apple juice or cider, apricots or peaches, plums, and cherries or raisins. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Meanwhile, stir together brown sugar, flour, and nutmeg; add chopped apple or pear and walnuts. Gradually stir dried fruit mixture into apple mixture.
    3. 3Transfer filling to pastry-lined tart pan. Top with a lattice crust. If desired, brush pastry with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in 375 degree F oven about 45 minutes or until fruit is bubbly and pastry is golden. Cool on wire rack. To serve, remove sides of tart pan. Makes 12 servings.

Texas Girl here and an Army Veteran. Army Veteran= I've been all over this country. Good food comes from people who put the time in to cook it properly. And way to go to those who brought up a war that happened um lets see over 150 years ago. Its funny the one that first brings it up lives in a state that didnt even take part in the war. Wait to go. speak wear it is proper and about what is proper. If you live in a place or are from a place that did not participate it is not right and proper to.

This recipe sounds fabulous! You could probably leave out the brown sugar because there is so much sugar in the dried fruits. The taste would probaly still be great.
