I love discovering and trying out apps on my new smart phone, but don't want to spend money buying them if I can get a good-quality apps for free. I've found a nice selection of free Windows Phone 7 apps for parents. Here is a list of some of my favorites. These can all be found by going to the Marketplace and searching for the app by name.
My Life -- This is a great free organizational app for parents. You first enter the names (and, optionally, a picture, age, and contact information) of all your family members. Then you go to the mini apps section where you can add memories, things on your to-do list, write notes, record a note with the voice recorder, add something to your wish list, and even use the trip planner, which helps you organize important phone numbers, flight information, and packing lists for each family member.
Sleep Bug -- This soothing sound app can be a lifesaver when it comes to putting your baby to bed, or even to just get your baby to stop crying. There are nine "scenes" to choose from: weather, beach, jungle, river, city, fire, music box, horror (probably not one you want to use for your baby!), and sci-fi. Once you choose one, you can further customize the scene by turning on or off some of the layers of sound. For example, the fire scene has the added sounds of a bird, an owl, thunder, wind, and crickets.
Time Out Now -- This free Windows Phone 7 app lets you set up time out timers for each of your children. You set up the app with your child or children's names as well as their ages. When your child needs a time out, just click on his or her name, then the app will set a countdown timer with one minute for each year in your child's age. The app even saves a history of each child's time outs.
Yoga-pedia -- Yoga is great for parents … all you need is a few minutes to do a quick stretch in the morning or a quick calming routine to wind down at night. This app is great for beginners -- it has several categories of poses and each category has several poses in it. By clicking on a pose name, you can see a picture of it as well as a description of how to do the pose. You can also read about the purpose and benefits of the different categories of poses.
Children's Quotes -- This simple app consists of quotes about children. You can browse through them, add quotes to your favorites list, and share quotes via email, text message, or by posting them to Facebook.
