YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY

Fun fall activities for your dog

Looking for fun activities to do with your dog this fall? As the weather gets cooler and the leaves start to fall, a whole new world of possibilities opens up. Most dogs are not hard to please, and they are pack animals. As long as your dog is with you, they are happy. Try some of these fall favorites with your pet this year:

Sports: One of the first things to come to mind when I say 'fall activities' is probably football. You can play football with your dog, but he will probably just chase you. If you try flag football, on the other hand, he may get the idea and start to tackle and pull flags as well! I have tried this with my Labrador Retriever and he caught on quickly! Soccer is another pet-friendly game. My dog loves to play soccer with the kids. The kids try to get it from one end of the yard to the other while he chases them and tries to steal it with his paws and mouth. Frisbee is also a very popular option. You can throw it directly to the dog or to another location nearby.

Yard Work: Don't forget to include your dog when you rake the leaves! It may take you a few extra minutes to get it done with his 'help,' but I have yet to meet a dog that didn't want to jump in a leaf pile. If you need to aerate some soil (and don't mind encouraging digging) Fido can help with that as well! When my dog sees me digging in the garden he always wants to help. Just be sure to put him away when you are planting.

Holiday Activities: Every year, I take my Toy Poodle trick-or-treating with the kids. She likes to get out and be sociable and all of the family adores her. We always go to the same houses (friends and family). The first year I took her out I called ahead to be sure everyone was ok with it. Some of them even purchased pet treats to give her! She has an assortment of costumes and everyone loves to see what she will be wearing this year!

Get Moving: We should all walk more for better health, and this includes our pets. Start taking the dog with you during walks. You can spice things up by roller blading, skating, or biking, too!

No matter the activity, or the season, your pet just wants to spend more time with you. If you keep that in mind, you can't go wrong!
