Sometimes the best ideas are the really unusual ones. Are you looking to put up shelves in your next home decor project? Then it is time to think outside of the box. Include an unusual shelving unit in your space for function and interest. From funky round shelves to shelves that take advantage of a window view, get creative with your next installation. Let me show you how.
• Round Wood Barrels
Who says shelves have to be flat or square? Why not use round materials to hold your paraphernalia? Here is a great idea for a kid's room or a rustic space in your home. Cut the ends off an old wood barrel - leaving from 8 to 12 inches to use as shelf space. Then mount them on the wall and pile in stuffed animals or other trinkets for a fun and funky shelving display.
• Floating Sections
Do you love the idea of a floating shelf, but want just a little more substance to the style? Then consider creating floating sections in all different shapes and sizes that intertwine with one another. From left to right, start with a floating shelf unit that resembles an oddly shaped letter "C" - then slip another floating shelf slightly inside the opening to make a creative display space. Use a couple of sections together or fill the entire wall with intertwined floating shelves for an unusual place to set out your prized possessions.
• Structural Surrounds
Custom built shelves that surround structural elements in your room bring the illusion of depth to the space. Perk up a plain, flat wall by building shelves around a window, door or mirror. Then paint the custom built unit in a contrasting color to make it really stand out.
• Window Runners
When a room is filled from ceiling to floor with windows, it can be hard to place accessories in the space. Here is a bright solution. Build a long shelf that runs the entire length of the window wall - just mount it right in from of the windows. You will get a ton of surface space for knick knacks and natural radiance that will bring light to the subject.
