Have you noticed that your winter hair is frizzy, flyaway, dry, and uncooperative? Is it being stubborn and difficult to manage? Mine gets dry and wispy in the winter. It really doesn't want to do whatever it is that I want it to do. You might need to change up your hair routine -- and your hair style -- to help you look your best for winter dates. Here are a few tips to keep your hair in its best shape for winter dates.
Shampoo less often. I love to shampoo my hair. It feels great and helps release tension. But too-frequent shampoos can dry hair out and cause the hair to be stripped of its natural oils. So all winter long, I make it my mission to shampoo every other day. In between, I touch up any oily spots with dry shampoo or baby powder. Going longer in-between shampoos helps the natural oils from your head nourish and moisturize your hair.
Condition. This might be a no-brainer for some, but if you're like me, you don't condition often enough. Even as a stylist who knows better, I tend to avoid conditioning my hair. It just makes it too soft and slippery. However, winter time dryness may be cause for you to change your routine by adding a lightweight conditioner every time you shampoo.
Air dry. Blow drying can cause frizz and flyaways, especially in the dry winter air. So just skimp on the effort and apply a little gel to hair, comb it, and allow it to air dry. This will help prevent dryness from the blow dryer and still help you look stylish. If you absolutely must use the hairdryer, use a flat iron sprayer to protect hair from the heat of the dryer.
Use gel, mousse, or pomade. Certainly styling products work great to keep flyaways under control. First, try gel or mousse before you do any heat styling. Once hair is styled, you can add a little pomade to keep those flyways at bay. Just emulsify it in your hands and run them through your hair. Always finish with a coat of hairspray to create a style that lasts all day.
Wear ear muffs instead of a hat. Ear muffs may not be in the sights of the fashion set, but they are important. You can usually safely wear earmuffs over your hairstyle without smooshing it, but a hat is a hairdo killer. Better yet, gently wrap a scarf around your entire head for protection from the cold but without messing up the 'do.
Choose a winter date hair style that is easy to manage and hides frizz and flyaways. Take great care of your hair and you'll look and feel better, too.
