Hair tricks. I love learning new things, even little things, to help my hair and my clients' hair look better faster. I love tricks to make styling easier and make maintenance simpler. I love to watch my fellow stylists' work, because we often pick up things from each other. Hair shows are another great place to learn beauty and hair tricks, too. Here are a few of my favorite tricks and tips to style your hair more quickly, more easily, and better.
Make your shampoo work harder. Choose the shampoo that fits your hair situation - volumizing for fine hair, frizz taming for curly hair, color toning for platinum blond hair (my favorite!). Apply your shampoo in the shower, rinse, and apply again. This gets rid of the extra buildup and helps you get the most from your shampoo. While you're at it, give yourself a thorough, but gentle, scalp massage to promote a healthy scalp and better hair growth. Use cool water to make your color last longer, and always follow with a good conditioner.
Dry your hair faster. Want to get out from under the blow dryer faster? Gently blot your hair with a dry towel and remove as much moisture as possible without scrubbing. Quickly blow dry your hair on high, until it is about eight percent dry. Then apply your hair products, and then begin blowing dry to style. It will go much quicker this way and it will be less damaging to your lovely locks.
Make a hair donut. Take an old sock and cut off the foot. Role the cuff until it looks like a donut. Create a ponytail, then slide the donut over the tale end, all the way up and over the hair elastic. Take another hair elastic, and spread the ponytail back over on itself, creating a bun that covers the donut. Wrap the ends around the donut and pin in place for a nice, full bun. Try using a sock that matches the color of your hair to make it less noticeable. Or use a brightly colored sock and allow little bits to peek through for a splash of color.
Disguise split ends. Disguise split ends with a little bit of hair wax. Emulsify it between your fingers, and then rake your fingers over the ends of your hair. This will help hide those frizzy ends.
Add texture. You can easily add texture to fine hair with a spritz of dry shampoo. Just spritz in and shake it a little bit for volume, too.
Tame flyaways. Take a can of aerosol hair spray, and spray another can with it. Roll the can overtop of your hairstyle to smooth down fly away hairs. If you only have one can of spray, you can spritz some on the back of a comb, a flat brush, or even your fingers to accomplish the same thing.
These simple tips and tricks will help you style your hair more easily and more quickly. What other hair tricks do you know?
