10 Easy Ways to Cut 100 Calories

The science is simple: Eating fewer calories makes you drop pounds. But depriving yourself by skimping on meals and banishing snacks only makes you hungry and pissed off. Plus, you are more likely to binge in the end anyway.

The real solution lies in cutting out just a few little extra items from each meal (truly, your taste buds won't even realize their absence) as well as making some food swaps so you sacrifice one fat-bomb ingredient and replace it with a more flavorful option. Incorporate a few of these ideas into your day and you'll soon feel lighter and-as a bonus-healthier. Need to drop five pounds in a week? Your diet starts here.

    1) Skip the croutons, halve the Parmesan dressing, and say no to extra cheese on top of your Caesar salad.

    2) Order or whip up an egg-white scramble with two pieces of turkey bacon rather than a whole-egg omelette with two pieces of pork bacon.

    3) Use 4 tablespoons of hummus instead of 2 tablespoons of regular mayonnaise on your sandwich. Or go with mustard, which is practically calorie-free (just 3 in each little packet!). Read about more foods that melt away flab.

    4) Eat your French-or Italian-bread sandwich/hero open-faced so you consume only one slice of bread.

    5) Opt for a 1-cup serving of no-butter microwave popcorn rather than munching on a bag of potato chips.

    6) Instead of one croissant, eat two pieces of whole-wheat toast with a smidge of butter or cream cheese on each slice.

    7) Dunk 10 tortilla chips in salsa, not guacamole. Nix these habits that are giving you belly pudge.

    8) Nosh on a handful of pretzels at the bar during happy hour rather than the same amount of nuts.

    9) Share a small order of spicy wings on the bone instead of breaded chicken wings. Read the best weight-loss tips we've ever heard about.

    10) When you cook at home, use a spray like Pam to coat the pan (spritz for one full second) instead of using a tablespoon of olive oil. Yep, oil olive isn't the only "healthy food" that is making you fat. Check out this list.

Dear Priyanka. There is no other way than to have extensive walk for not less than 45-50 minutes every day to reduce ur fats on waist and thighs. You will feel the difference in only 7 days. all the best

I agree to the previous two comments about Olive Oil,too. But you have to buy the right Olive Oil,
the one which is imported from Italy or Spain. These Olive Oils are the most used ones in Europe and
are none chemically processed.Use it for all baking, cooking and salads and home made dressings.
Nuts are high in Fat, but it is "good Fat" and will make you not gain extra weight.Excellent for cooking or
frying is also pure none processed Coconut Oil or Real Butter, not Margarine.
If you want to cut calories cut all processed Food from your Diet including Soft Drinks, because these kind of Foods are the Real culprit of gaining weight and keep it,now matter how much you exercises.

One more Olive Oil brand i would suggest is Rahma Olive oil which is available in all good stores in middle east. These IFFCO people have their own fields of olive oil and they purify it themselves. You wouuld like it.

Good to know everyone knows what is really healthy for them. I'm surprised with all the new data around about olive oil, nuts and avocados this article wasn't revised. The editor at Cosmo and Shine is slipping.

FYI, nuts in general are better for you than pretzels. The fat in nuts is typically food fat and the protien in combo with the good fat keeps you fuller longer.

Olive oil is not only better for you, but better for the environment then a sray on oil. If you are concerned about using too much, but some olive oil in a bottle sprayer and use that to coat your pan. Plus it does taste WAY better!

I agree with the previous two comments. Just because something is lower in calories does not make it your go to option.

The tip of skipping olive oil is a little off base. First, I typically use a tablespoon when cooking a recipe for more than one serving. If I used Pam instead I'm removing about 120 calories from the whole recipe, not from my portion alone. Second, having some olive oil is good for you. Cut back in other places.

I agree with elbow17green. That's a little ridiculous. Olive oil IS good for you. And for that matter, so is guacamole! Or at least avocados are. And the guac I make myself is nothing more than avocados, tomatoes, onion, cilantro and a little salt a pepper. Can't see that being unhealthy. Then again, neither is the salsa but that's beside the point.

Sure, both olive oil and guacamole/avocados are high in calories but I think the benefits outweigh the "consequences." You shouldn't be dieting to the point that you start cutting out things that are good for you. At that point, you're restricting far too much. These things aren't the enemy.

Plus, I think it's bogus to say my taste buds won't notice the difference. Maybe not but I've tried to saute onions and garlic in Pam. It just doesn't work. And the difference IS noticeable.

I'm kind of bummed by this article. Skip healthy fats and eat processed junk instead? Come on now. Avocados and olive oil will keep you fuller longer and are better for your heart and overall health than pretzels and salsa. The rest of the tips aren't TOO bad, I mean one trick you can do is get the dressing on the side of your salad and only dip the tines of the fork in the dressing before you take each bite of salad. I skip the cheese altogether because if its a Caesar salad the dressing usually has cheese in it. I skip the croutons as well, as long as I add some protein like grilled chicken. I wouldn't eat a French bread or Italian bread hero period. That much bread in one sitting is too much. Now a veggie burger, or turkey burger on one of those Oroweat Sandwich thins, now that's a sandwich! :) I've lost 150lbs and kept it off, and it hasn't been by eating junk, but mainly by eating whole foods with a few quick fixes when I have cravings (i.e. the veggie burger).

Just another article giving you things that won't help if you want to lose weight. If you do this, you might lose 2 whole pounds a YEAR! But what is more likely is that your body will adjust to the measly 100 calories less a week and you'll lose nothing.

The minor inconvenience of being hungry is completely worth losing 50lbs. I don't advocate "skimping meals and banishing snacks." In fact, no legitimate nutritionist would. They would tell you what they told me - eat 6x a day but eat smaller, highly nutritious meals and exercise.

These so called health articles that tell you not to limit calorie intake are garbage. You have to burn about 470 calories more every day than you eat to lose a tiny little pound a week. It's the only thing that actually works. Don't take my word for it - there are hundreds of detailed studies out there that prove that. My favorite quote: "Eat less, bike more."

What is IN Pam anyways? At least with olive oil you know what it is and what it came from. And people have been using it since BC times.
