10 Foods that Make You Bloat

This will make you bloat. This will make you bloat. You already know it's a good idea to stay away from salty potato chips when you want to avoid belly bloat. But a new report found that other seemingly innocent foods are tripping you up.

    By Korin Miller

According to the Center For Disease Control's list of the top 10 sources of sodium, most of us get too much sodium from…bread and rolls. It's not that they contain more salt than potato chips and junk food-we just eat them more because, until now, we didn't realize they had so much sodium in them.

According to the report, these top 10 items make up 44 percent of the sodium we eat every day. Here's the rest of the list:

    1. Bread
    2. Cold cuts and cured meats
    3. Pizza
    4. Poultry
    5. Soups
    6. Fast-food hamburgers and sandwiches
    7. Cheese
    8. Spaghetti and other pasta dishes
    9. Meatloaf and other meat dishes
    10. Snacks-potato chips, pretzels, etc.

So, if you're planning to slip into a skintight LBD on Saturday, take a pass on having a pizza night or a burger a few days beforehand. Instead, try a protein-packed salad or a piece of grilled fish.

My wife always gets on me for adding too much Seasoning Salt. I had no idea that was causing bloat. Guess it is time to cut back on what taste good. Does cardboard cause bloat?

The commercial seasoning blends and "seasoning salt" are mostly salt (it's cheap for the manufacturer), so just make your own.. Garlic powder, lemon pepper, chili powder, paprika, white pepper, a little boullion powder instead of plain salt... experiment with different blends to your own taste. Don't give it up, just change the blend.

Many people can't digest raw vegetables very well, which gives them gas and makes them bloated also. So, what's left?

This article was taken from Cosmopolitan magazine. I stopped buying Cosmo years ago for its terribly sexist advice... this "article" was not worth its "salt". Any idiot knows salt causes bloat. Cosmo, stick to articles about shoes and lip gloss.

You can still eat some of these things, you just need to know how MUCH sodium is in them. Oh, and they left off soda. The carbonation alone makes you feel bloated.

So what I'm I supposed to eat now, rice everyday??
    • John  •  New York, New York  •  3 months ago
If you use Himalayan salt or a high quality salt you can use less and still taste it. Cured meats are very bad because of the salt and nitrates. Bread is empty calories, and crackers and pretzels have a lot of salt and trans fats. Eat fish, vegetables, fruits, and lean red meat...no packaged, frozen, or processed junk.

So are we to start just grazing on grass? If we do, I'm bring the seasoning salt!

    • Mommy for life  •  3 months ago
So tired of everything about food is bad. Pretty soon we won't be able to eat anything because even if it's healthy like fruits and vegetables, if we don't grow it ourselves we have to worry about chemicals. It's a viscious cycle lately.

So, in other words, we should all just eat rabbit pellets and drink filtered rain water... and end up dying anyway. Sounds like a good deal.
