20 very easy tips for lowering your daily stress level

When we're stressed, we tend to become more stressed. That's because when we're rushed and harried, we cut corners. We don't take the time to do the little things that, though not difficult or time-consuming themselves, can end up saving enormous amounts of time and trouble.

For example, buying stamps isn't stressful, and buying a roll of stamps isn't any more stressful than buying twenty stamps, but realizing that you've run out of stamps when you've waited to the last possible day to pay your bills is STRESSFUL.

And it seems to be a natural law that every car's gas gauge hits "Empty" at the moment of maximum inconvenience.

As a kid, I was puzzled by the meaning of the old saying, "A stitch in time saves nine."

Now I know what it means. And it's a very sensible saying. It means that if you make one stitch when it's needed, you'll save yourself the trouble of having to make nine stitches later.

Similarly, one of the best ways to lower the stress level in your life is to discipline yourself to do the little things that will help keep stress at bay.

These tasks don't seem particularly important, and they're easy to skip when you're rushed, but if neglected, they can snowball into major stress.

So, if you feel like your stress level is high, try to tick off some items on this list. A little effort now means a lot less stress, later.

Go to bed thirty minutes earlier than usual.
Get up twenty minutes earlier than usual.
Before you go to sleep, prepare for the morning.
Bring a hat and an umbrella.
Don't wear tight clothes or uncomfortable shoes.
    Make a list.
    Listen to a favorite song.
Keep extra cash and stamps in the house.
    Be polite and be fair.
    Laugh out loud.
Have a good book to read.
Keep an extra set of keys.
    Exercise.
Always keep your passport in the same place.
    Throw something away.
Don't say mean things about other people.
Put a Bandaid in your wallet.
    Keep gas in the car.
    Pay attention to someone else.
    Make your bed.

What am I overlooking? If you can think of other suggestions for little steps to ward off stress, please post them. I'm sure we all need them.

Schedule "worry time". If you start to stress out about finances or what ever your stressors are just tell yourself you are not allowed to worry about it until the scheduled time(ex: 6:30 to 7:00 PM) At the sheduled time sit down with your list of worries and fret it out, if still no solution wait till the next sheduled time. We shedule everything else in our lives so it just makes sense. If you have to worry don't let it take up your whole life, schedule it!

Give yourself permission to relax. I know it so strange, but sometimes we need to tell ourselves that it is ok if we don't get everything done. That it is ok to sit down watch our favorite movie even if the dishes haven't been done.

History and science have shown us that the existence of the disease of alcoholism is pure speculation. Just saying alcoholism is a disease, doesn't make it true. Nevertheless, medical professionals and American culture lovingly embraced the disease concept and quickly applied it to every possible deviant behavior from alcohol abuse to compulsive lecturing. The disease concept was a panacea for many failing medical institutions adding billions of dollars to the industry and leading to a prompt evolution of pop-psychology. Research has shown that alcoholism is a choice, not a disease, and stripping alcohol abusers of their choice, by applying the disease concept, is a threat to the health of the individual.

The disease concept oozes into every crevice of our society perpetuating harmful misinformation that hurts the very people it was intended to help. It is a backwards situation where the assumptions of a few were adopted as fact by the medical profession, devoid of supporting evidence. And soon after, the disease concept was accepted by the general public. With this said, visiting the history of the disease concept gives us all a better understanding of how and why all of this happened.

The disease concept originated in the 1800s with a fellow by the name of Dr. Benjamin Rush. He believed alcoholics were diseased and used the idea to promote his prohibitionist political platform. He also believed that dishonesty, political dissention and being of African-American decent were diseases. The "disease concept" was used throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s by prohibitionists and those involved in the Temperance Movement to further a political agenda. Prior to this time, the term alcoholic did not exist.

Great tips... also take an Epsom Salt bath. It not only detoxifies you from the inside out, it's also very soothing and relaxing. Smile more and not to forget that special prayer when we wake up to make our day go even smoother.
