After a long weekend of fun in the sun, you are more likely than ever to be confronted with the symptoms of dehydration: dry mouth, thirst, and fatigue to name a few.
If water seems just plain boring to you, here are three reasons that may inspire you to sip:
1. You'll amp your energy Down 48 to 64 ounces of water daily to stay energized. Hydrated women feel less fatigued than those who drink less, experts say. Plus, research shows that gulping during a workout can help you exercise longer. Take in an extra 16 to 24 oz two to three hours before you hit the gym, pool or trail. For a hint of flavor, add lemon or lime wedges, mint or frozen fruit.

2. You'll stop (unnecessary) snacking Thirst can sometimes masquerade as hunger. Sip your water slowly throughout the day to curb thirst-induced snacking. Drink between bites at meals, too: It may slow you down so you notice fullness signals, which set in after 20 minutes.
3. You'll benefit your brain The clear stuff could even help your noggin. In a pilot study in the European Journal of Neurology, people with migraines who consumed about 6 cups of water daily experienced a significant decline in headache duration and intensity.
Energizing, slimming and a healthy head? I'm sold! And remember: dehydration can lead to serious consequences, like rapid heart beat and low blood pressure, so be sure to get enough fluids to keep yourself a float. If plain old water still does not appeal to you, try a refreshing flavored alternative, such as HINT water, winner of best flavored water for the 2010 Healthy Food Awards.
Happy sipping!
