We don't all have the budget to hire a personal trainer or the patience to watch a video carefully enough to get all the how-to's we really need when we start a new workout. Getting the guidance of a professional will help you learn proper form, avoid injuries, and exercise more efficiently. While you are lining up a Q & A session with a class instructor or rewinding back through the fitness DVD, take note of these 6 fitness mistakes you don't want to make. Don't ignore your IQ health. The lead to this item should read "you're", not "your" depending.

How about holding on to the bar when doing the treadmill ? I don't lean on it, but I have to lean uncomfortably unless I hold the bar. I walk with maximum incline at 4 miles per hour. I can't do that without holding on - for safety as well as comfort.

I've been working out at the gym for 9 years now and all of the fitness dos and don'ts make alot of sense. It is really important to be aware of what you are doing when you work out. The only thing I can not do is eat before I work out. I have green tea and alot of water but no food until afterwards. So far it hasn't been a problem. I am really hungry afterwards and eat well during the day. How long is too long at the gym? Does anyone know?

Every time I click on an article, I cant find the rest of it, Im beginning to wonder why I even bother to try to read anything on yahoo's home page, I have no idea where the seven do's and dont's are?

I have been going to the gym 16 years. I used to play sports several times a week before that. I'm not perfect but very fit for a 46 year old.
The best advice is this, don't over do it. Walk the dog further and faster, do what you enjoy. Extra time up and down the steps twice a day. Drink lots of water, more than u think. Eat kinda healthy but not after 7 or 8. Sweet Potatos and greens... your body will love you!

I see lots of postings about lifting weights to failure. However, it really depends on your training goals. I train for endurance racing (marathons, triathlons), and if I did regular lift-to-failure workouts, I would build too much muscle mass and be too tired for my long (3-hour plus) endurance workouts. Step one: Define your goals.

These tips are great....just please use the correct spelling in the opening sentence. It should be "you're", not "your."

My problem is getting motivated to get my butt downstairs and use all the exercise equipment I have been using to hang clothes on this past year. I am having alot of gait problems and vertigo from my MS but I need to get back into a reg exercise routine again.(I always feel so much better when I do)but lately I am not too motivated. Can anyone suggest any good ideas to help me 'get the lead out' and get going again! I have a stationary bike, an elliptical machine an ab machine and a glider rider plus weights. Im hoping someone can help me out by suggesting a beginners program for cardio and weights but I realize I need to start slowly and regain my lost muscle strength. Any thoughts? thanks.

      Quack Alert!

Someone who obviously knows nothing about weight lifting giving advice about it. Lifting to temporary muscle failure is what causes the muscle to grow. If you're not interested in building muscle though, that's ok, it still burns calories if you don't lift to failure.

If u want to lose weight. Eat fewer calories than you can burn. 3,500 calories=1 pound of fat. 218 calories= 1 ounce of fat. Mondays are the worst and the most crowdest day. People want to lose and burned what they gained from drinking and eating over the weakend. Dancing only burns so much. sex burns more.Fidget, keep moving will help burn calories. Look it this way. A drip falling into a bucket will eventually fill, as to no drips accumilating. Burning 8 calories is better than none. * calories= 1 gram of fat. Read labels

To Joe who is suffering with hypoglycemia. As I medical professional I would be very hesitant to advise you on this without having more detail of your medical background. What I will suggest is that you, if you haven't already, find an Endocrinologist (this is a specialist) who will be able to assist you in understanding hypoglycemia and the management thereof. It may also be a good idea to seek the assistance of a Nutritionist who can help you make wise dietary choices to keep yourself safe and lessen your incidences of "bottoming out". Take this serious and get the help, advise, and education you need to manage it. Good Luck... Lisa

      Unbelievable....
A Frickin' TYPO just seven words into this article!!!
"your" is misspelt (the wrong usage).... instead of it reading "your" it should be spelt "you're," as in "you are"...

      Current/Incorrect:
"You may not realize how much YOUR depending on the handle..."

      Should Be:
"You may not realize how much you're (YOU ARE) depending on the handle..."

I live in the south and see way too many women taking a walk on the treadmill. If all you're going to do is walk, go outside. We see too many magazine articles promising us that we will lose "all that baby weight" if we walk everyday. Sorry, ladies! This is a complete lie. You have to run.
