The number one killer of man, is not nuclear accidents, fat, cholesterol, smoking, drugs, wars, floods, tsunamis, fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, murders, drowning, cancer, aids, or auto accidents, or even sports -- it is SALT! Salt kills more people every year, than "all" other things, combined, (yes "combined"). All diseases are also enhanced, facilitated, and accelerated by salt, as well; leading to lesser quality of life, and earlier death. Even small amounts of salt in the diet are very dangerous. Most meat items at Wal-Mart, and all other grocers, are injected with a 15% to 20% of salt solution (to artificially get the weight up - we're paying high beef prices for salt water). Food production companies, know that you will always buy the "Heavier" box of cereal (or any other product), so they poor heavy amounts of salt, and or sugar, into the box in order to get the weight up. Salt is not a spice, or an herb -- it's listed by the Food and Drug Administration, under the title of "POISONS". Want to live healthier, and live 12% to 20% longer - demand that your governments get in line with Wal-Mart, in reducing, and removing salt from your food. Wal-Mart announced it's plans to do so, in January of 2011 -- I'm still waiting to see it: even though their 25% target is not nearly enough.
By the way “SEA SALT” is the very same thing! Here’s the trick:
When you put bee bees in a glass, more of them fit in the glass than larger ball bearings, but they are both made of the same thing. SEA SALT is the very same salt, but is not ground as finely as table salt --- s-o-o-o: when your are told that sea salt weighs less than table salt by “VOLUME” (simply means fewer big things fit in the same glass), you are being sucker punched. But we are smarter than that, right? Always choose the box that weighs less, and read the sodium content on the labels. Please copy this and tweet it to your congressmen, and congresswomen.
Hey Senator, where is the number one killer of man in the Health Care Plan? My group cannot find it in there!

No fake sugar ever! So the pudding is no good for you and most of the stuff on list is highly processed so once again not good for you.

Well, in response to the Fruitees, I'd have to say although it's ideal to grab some fruit, I think I get the point of this article being there are alternatives to non-healthy snacking that can be healthier than say Ben & Jerry's, Doritos, or Burger King. Let's face it, nobody's perfect. We all get cravings. We all try to eat healthy and unprocessed foods, but it doesn't always happen that way. It's nice to have lower calorie, somewhat healthy alternatives to turn to in those times. It's not all or nothing.

I quit eating "fat free" and "low fat" stuff a year ago. You end up eating twice as much, since they aren't as rich or filling. It's full of crap and chemicals...

Want some ice cream? Have a small scoop of full fat - it's significantly more satisfying, rich and filling. Some butter on that broiled fish? Have a pat or two of REAL butter, much better than fake butter - you won't feel compelled to add more and more to get that butter taste. I don't drink a lot of soda any more, used to do a lot of diet - full of chemicals.... I'll have a little 90 cal Coke as a treat once or twice a week...yes, I know high fructose corn syrup, surely can't be as bad as aspertane.

Recently started working with a physician who specializes in hormone replacement and weight loss - he was fully "on board" with the no diet food philosophy...

      Try it.

I suggest two foods at the grocery store. Both are very useful, and neither one cost very much.

One is Edamene soybeans I cook by the bag full in the microwave for five minutes (I buy the ones already shelled because I'm busy). They are filling, with my need for a lot of fuel every day in my physical labor job and other matters. I eat it every day as part of my breakfast, and sometimes part of my Supper.

Another is "Super Hummus." It mixes in soy with the traditional hummus recipe to give it twice the protein and half the fat. Note: I tried three grocery stores. The only one of the three that sells "Super Hummus" is Kroger.

I hope other people will love these two foods as much as I do.

Definitely agreeing with Mrs. F. I'm not overweight but the reason I stay small is because I snack regularly on healthy options...fruit, Luna Bars (all natural & mostly organic ingredients), Kashi cereals and for a protein hit, I love pickled herring (not everyone's bag but I love it:)

As everyone knows with snacks it's more than the processing, fewer calories etc it's not being able to JUST eat the suggested serving portion. I love sweets so I get not being able to stop at one or two, so I say eat the real thing so you don't feel as deprived and in moderation.

It's not just super processed, it's expensive! Esp. those vitatops. I'm with the "grab a fruit" crowd.

I agree with Mrs. F, this is all crap rather than food. I was expecting real food that's healthy and low in calories, things like an over-easy egg with fresh salsa or a small espresso cup of sweetened ricotta with a few raisins and a drop of vanilla. Maybe a deviled egg or a homemade black bean dip to serve with vegetable sticks. Or cucumber slices with a spicy topping.

vitabrownie and vitamuffins are also delicious and are chocolate....so good.

also plain almond milk has only 40 calories per cup (compared to 90 in skim milk) and tastes way better. with a bowl of fiber one you get a good 100 calorie snack, or you can add other foods for a full breakfast.
