Donna Richardson-JoynerBonnie Mechelle, host of The Healthtopia Radio Show interviewed Donna Richardson-Joyner, creator of the Body Gospel program that focuses on helping people become healthy both physically and spiritually. Ms. Richardson-Joyner has been inducted into the Fitness Hall of Fame, she has starred in 25 award-winning fitness videos, and she is the only member of the President's Council for Fitness, sports & Nutrition to be appointed twice by two Presidents.
She has been named on of the 25 most inspiring women by Essence Magazine, she is married to popular radio talk show host Tom Joyner, and she has set a Guinness world record for the world's largest line dance with over 50,000 participants. Richardson-Joyner believes that people should be empowered, educated and energized to take control of their health. She wants to show people how to get started, how to make fitness a part of their lifestyle for the entire family.
In order to combat the widespread epidemic of childhood obesity there needs to be a change in mindset and we must take steps to embrace a healthier lifestyle to decrease the incidences of diabetes and the other adverse health conditions that come from obesity.
The President's challenge is for six weeks, exercise for five days a week 30 minutes a day for adults and for those under 18 for 60 minutes a day and at the end of six weeks you get a certificate signed by President Obama. It's a great incentive to get people started on a healthy lifestyle.
Here are three things Donna shared that you need for starting a healthy lifestyle:
1. Faithful
2. Fruitful
3. Fighter
Then, Richardson-Joyner spoke about how you need to pray and ask God for the grace to make the changes in your life and to give you victory.
1. Get up and start moving. Take a 10, 15 or 20 minute walk daily
2. Schedule your workouts & make them a priority
3. Fuel your body with the proper nutrients and drink more water
-Eat five fruits and vegetable each day, and eat in moderation.
-Use a smaller plate to help with portion control
"Each individual needs to be accountable for their own health," says Donna. Listen to this awesome interview and find out more information at: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/healthtopiaradio/2010/10/30/faith-filled-fitness-with-donna-richardson-joyner
