With so many people celebrating Halloween or Day of the Dead (or both!) at the end of October, it's easy to miss the fact that this month also signals the beginning of the Celtic new year. Due to all these seasonal transitions, the frontier between the living and dead this time of year is practically non-existent!

This is why so many around the world will leave food outside -- usually on front porches -- to symbolically nurture their dearly departed come late October. Also at this time of year, apples are often buried in the garden to, again, nourish the souls of deceased loved ones.

And yet, my favorite October Feng Shui tip is one that has to do with nurturing and nourishing your own fortunes. This piece of advice dictates that if, anytime after sunset on October 31, you stand before a mirror, look directly into your own eyes and make a wish, that very wish will come true! The key to strengthening the possibility of fulfillment here is that, as you gaze into the mirror, you must also visualize your life as if your wish has already been fulfilled.

Now, that's not too scary at all, is it?

This month marks the Day of the Dead in Mexico (October 30) and Halloween in the U.S. and Canada (October 31). European festivals still participate in pre-Christian celebrations as the wheel between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice continues to turn. This is a time of death and darkness, a time to turn within and appreciate what you have harvested in the season just passed. It also offers an opportunity to gather together to share the season's bounty with others!

During this period of daylight's contraction, take time to clear from your life what no longer serves you. And why not start with the clothes in your closet? During these days of gathering and sharing whatever you can, it's both empowering and wonderfully karmic to give away your old clothes to those who can use them. Share your self -- and your worldly goods -- and know that as you do, you are tilling the soil of your soul for the beautiful and abundant cycle of spring to come.

You are now the light that brightens the approaching colder, darker nights. Shine, baby, shine!
