    Foods That Burn Calories!

    By Jennifer Nichol

    Eat Foods High in Fiber

Celery and cabbage have long been touted as "calorie burning" foods, simply because the energy used to digest these foods is greater than the energy, or calories, ingested by eating the foods. An added benefit of these foods is that they are fibrous and filling, which means you will feel satisfied faster and on many fewer calories that other food choices. Keep in mind, however, that you don't want your caloric intake to be too low to cause a drop in metabolism. When your metabolism drops, you will retain more weight as the body responds to what it thinks is a period of malnutrition.

Vitamin C is also believed to be a calorie burner and a weight loss booster. Foods that are high in Vitamin C and also high in fiber and low in calories include oranges, tangerines (fresh, not canned), grapefruit (which are 90 percent water!), limes and lemons.

    Eat Low-Fat Dairy Products

Recent studies have been pointing to the fact that dieters who eat at least two to three servings of low-fat dairy products a day, like cottage cheese and yogurt, lose weight faster, keep it off longer, and lose more weight in the belly area than dieters who don't include dairy products in their diets.

Easy lunch additions include single-serving sizes of low-fat string cheese, individually wrapped low-fat cheese wedges, milk cartons (not just for elementary school cafeterias anymore) and even fat-free sour cream in place of other condiments.

    Choose Foods Rich in B12

Eggs, milk, low-fat cheese and cereals that have been vitamin-enriched are all good sources of vitamin B12. Some sources state that B12 increases the body's fat-burning ability. Every gram of fat equals 9 calories, so when you burn fat, you burn calories, too. Vitamin B12 is also known to fight fatigue and speed up the metabolism, which are benefits that can give a boost to any dieter.

Hey, I need that book today, could you get started right away. I have had some issues with my fiber intake, as in not taking in enough, and have felt terrible. I have since gone to the doctor and he recommended a high fiber diet, and gave me a list. I noticed that when I do eat enough fiber I feel better and have more energy, and am more regular. Keeping up the practice is hard because I am not discipline, but this article was very helpful.

I knew that the "some foods burn more calories to eat than they contained" was a complete hoax when I was a KID 15 years ago. It comes from people "forgetting" that the "calorie" found on food labels is actually a KILO calorie! (A calorie being the amount of energy necessary to heat 1cc (ml) of water 1 degree celsius.

I suppose you could make an argument that drinking water burns more calories than you ingest (0), but that's just stupid, like this whole article.

The biggest problem I have with this article is that it will cause Americans to go overboard using B12. Everyone is looking for that "magic Bullet" and dieting as a means of weight loss is not the correct attitude. Changing your eating habits to equal you caloric needs is not as difficult as it sounds and when you add a sensible exercise program to it excess weight will in fact become a thing of the past. The other problem I have discovered is that too many people are influenced by photos of celebrities better than average muscle tone and often time development. The average non athlete has no idea just how much work is involved in developing and then maintaining that muscle tone. Dieting without and exercise program is a mistake. I have seen only a very few people that use walking as a form of exercise actually walk at a brisk enough pace to actually make a difference in their fitness. It takes muscle to burn calories. Eating 50 lbs. of cabbage or celery will only give you some digestive issues. I also do not believe in the low fat dairy craze that has been touted as the "healthy" way to consume dairy products. Low fat milk is not as healthy as the "registered dietitians" would like you to believe. It all depends upon where you get your research information and who funded the study. I believe that anyone that does not have a medical problem and has a weight problem needs to get off the sofa and move around more. If you embark on an exercise program see your doctor first and follow his recommendations as to how strenuous your program should be so you don't wind up in the hospital. Resistance training is important in any exercise program. Lifting weights builds muscle and like I stated earlier. It takes muscle to burn fat. Understanding how the metabolic processes work is not really something most folks are interested in studying because it certainly can appear to be contradictory. For instance, we here in the U.S. have been subject to propaganda that has given a lot of people the belief that Tropical Oils are not heart healthy but the rise of heart disease in the west started after WWII when the predominant vegetable oils used were made from soybeans and corn and rape seed (canola) and other non tropical oils when the fact of the matter is that medium chain fatty acids i.e. Tropical Oils are actually good for you and not the dangerous artery clogging oils that the American vegetable oil producers would have you believe. Planning to exercise? Eat a couple of tablespoons of virgin coconut oil before you exercise and do your muscles a favor. Medium chain fatty acids are what you body uses first for energy. Your "diet" should be how you eat for the rest of your life and not a temporary way to lose weight unless it is associated with an exercise program that involves resistance training.

Cabbage is know to give gas- be aware- don't plan on any big parties that night that are enclosed-lol. Also, dairy products fill you up longer because they are hard to digest, the same as meat (which rots). If you want a good dairy product, choose Kefir. It is the number one dairy item which burns fat. Yogurt helps digestion, but kefir has added benefits of eating away the nasty gunk in your system. It helps colonize bacteria in your digestive tract- the good bacteria that is which breaks down the food and rids your body of toxins. I added kefir to my diet instead of low-fat yogurt and am loosing and keeping off!!!! the weight. These foods listed are helpful to know, however the right way is to eat portioned meals daily, and in intervals. For example, breakfast I eat oatmeal with a fruit. The starchy carbs in the fruit I burn off during the day. 10am I eat a 4oz chicken breast and half baked potato (no toppings, if needed use can't believe it is not butter spray and Mrs Dash for chicken) and kefir drink. Noon, the same thing. 2:30PM 4oz albacore tune with four egg whites (boiled). 5:30 4oz chicken and whole baked potato. 8PM tuna again, however can substitute protein bar or protein shake. Keep to this and you will shed weight really fast. You can change things up a bit if you wish, just eat at those times and eat low-fat healthy foods in proper portions. Following this diet, you do not need to work out either. If you do, it increases loss. Now, proper weight loss is measured by inches. At first, my weight remained the same for the week, however I noticed my pants were too big, I lost inches. That is how you loose weight proper, inches THEN weight. And for all the meals drink water. I recently added green tea to my routine, and a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to the chicken since Mediterranean diet and Asian has both these things and there was a report that these two in a diet is healthy to shed fat. If you switch the foods, try to keep away from processed and boxed items like 1/2 cup of Mac and Cheese. It wont fly. Just take the meal plan, change foods to healthy ones you like. If your a chocoholic, try to go for the extra dark, high antioxidant kind. Keep away from traditional Herseys etc, and go for their new kinds higher in cocoa and more fine. It's up to you but remember, some people who are bigger than yourself may have diabetes or a genetic trait making it very difficult. You can be larger and healthy. Just treat your body right and be kind to those who are larger who do also as well as yourself. No one is perfect, I am not, nor are nutritionist or the ones who write all those books about mean and lean abs in no time. (Also, I have come to find out that it is us, the public who actually do a better job at writing articles and getting advice via the comments section verses the writers. Thank god for the comments section)

I can attest that the article is true as I have incorporated a lot of these fruits and vegetables into my diet. I have increased my my meals from 3 large meals to 3 smaller meals with light snacks in between. The result of making these simple changes are visible as I have lost 40 pounds and counting! Also, I have dropped 4 pant sizes. Just Do It!!!

I've been eating alot of whole grains...they seem to fill me up alot. Also I've been drinking plain green tea with no sugar in it. Kind of like a shot of it each morning. As well I watch out with the sodium because that makes you retain water. I work in an office and no matter how much I try I don't really walk on my lunch break. Other things i do:

1)Take the steps down from my office.
2)Get off the bus early and walk further
3)Drink water and add lemons and limes for flavor (NO SODA or those water singles to flavor your drink)
4)portion control. I can what I want but look at cal and fat and sodium

I feel the foods that have been suggested to burn calories are not only great for burning fat and speeding up metabolism but are better for you. So why not clean out your kitchen, and replace negative foods with proper chices. So when u grab a snack you have the proper choices and won't go hungry. For myself and my husband we will eat when we want, but from the things I buy that are safe..Top choices--foods high in vitamin 12..exercise, and take our vitamins..Thank You..

Interestingly enough, did you know that celery has a negative calorie value? It is because it burns more calories to consume it than is actually present in it.
