Sad Fact: 84% of the people who resolve to get fit in the new year, never follow through.

There tends to be two times when we suddenly rev up our fitness lifestyles and go full force to get healthy:
    *New Year's Day
*The Death of a family member or close friend

And how do we respond to such a shake-up? Immediately, we jump-start our healthy food and exercise regimens. We fill our refrigerators with whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and low-fat foods. We reinstate our gym memberships and somehow find the time to hop on the treadmill or slip in a yoga class three times a week. But just weeks into our new healthy regimens and the severity of reality begins to fade as we start to slack off. Suddenly, our days are again "too full" to exercise, and we stop at the fast-food drive-through in a desperate attempt to throw some sort of nourishment down our throats. We are back to the grind and waiting for another reality-jolting reminder of just how precious and fragile life is.

We have all heard the age-old adage 'If you don't use it, you lose it,' and we know it applies, so do it. Move it! More than just benefiting the body today, exercise has the ability to positively affect tomorrow, years, and even decades from now.

Sometimes you have to remind yourself of who you want to be in order to finally embody that person. Put it out there, act it, fake it if you have to. Eventually, you will become it… For me, I remind myself daily of the big picture goals through an Intention Board. I create a new one each year, or during times of transition. Each morning as I sit with my cup of coffee, I look at the board for inspiration and motivation, reading the words and reading into the images to see how they make me feel that day and help me determine what little steps I will take today to become that person tomorrow.

Let the jump-start of the New Year stick by creating an Intention Board to help you maintain a fitness lifestyle year round.

    HOW-TO MAKE AN "INTENTION" BOARD
An "Intention" feels less daunting than a "Resolution," allowing you a little leniency while still holding a basic structure that helps to keep you on track to achieve your goals. An Intention Board is a collage of images and words cut from magazines that illustrate the "energy" behind your goals/intentions/resolutions for the year. Here's how to do it:
-Write a wish list of the things that you would like to have happen this New Year
-Use a poster board and cover it in images, words, photos, magazine cutouts- whatever you want- that helps bring to life your ideal.
-Stare at It... Every morning as you're drinking coffee/tea or eating breakfast, sit w/ your board and take it in.
