statue of libertyIn the past for me, Memorial Day signified a Holiday meant for fun; family picnics, gathering with friends, laughter around the pool, a visit to a local park. It was a day off from work or school that meant time out from ordinary responsibilities. Banks and post offices would be closed as were most businesses. Only retail stores and restaurants were open for consumer spending, and I was one of them.
Like many never directly effected by war, I took for granted that freedom has never come free. My ability to live as I choose, has been carried for generations on the backs and through the life's blood of many.
