Go with the glow: a handy way to remember your prescription

It sounds simple enough. Your doctor gives you a prescription to take one pill a day. But by day four, you realize you've forgotten one of those daily doses. So do you take two pills? Call the doctor? Wish you'd used the Vitality GlowCaps system?

Vitality GlowCapsVitality GlowCapsIt's estimated that half a million people take at least one pill a day, and adherence is a common issue. Busy parents, business travelers, seniors living alone, and kids -- we all forget at some time or another. GlowCaps can help you remember. These battery-operated caps fit standard pharmacy vials (tightly), and when it's time to take your medicine, the cap will glow for an hour. After that, a melody will play for another hour as a gentle but persistent reminder. If you still don't get the message, Vitality's system can initiate an automated telephone call. GlowCaps can even remind you to order refills from your pharmacy.

The issue of medication adherence is a personal one for David Rose, CEO of Vitality and a GlowCap user himself. He and his father (pictured here on the left) depend on these Internet-connected pill caps and each other to stick to their prescription regimen.

In today's busy world, who needs more to remember?

No need to drop $100. Sunshine Pharmacy in Naples, Florida can set you up for reminders for FREE. You can choose to receive reminders by text, email or phone call! It's a brand new program, rolled out last week so info is not yet on our website (www.mysunshinepharmacy.com). Call 239-775-6800 for more information.

I thought this was a great idea , since I'm horrible about remembering to take meds... I clicked on the link immediately wanting to purchase one (and maybe another for my mom) until I saw the price! Hopefully as the concept gets coppied by other companies, the cost will come down. For $100 I could buy a basic iPhone and set an alarm to remind me. (and have an iPhone!) There's probably an app for that! Haha

Great idea, but check out this non-internet connected model that handles the entire month for up to 4 doses daily with

TRI-DATE VERIFICATION: matching the visual dates on pill boxes and clock with audible alerts assures accuracy

TALKING ALARM alerts users when it's time to take medication

Set up to 4 ALARMS DAILY to alert you when your medication is due

LOUD & EXTRA LOUD sound settings ensure the alarm is heard

RED & GREEN COLOR CODING shows when daily dose is complete

Lists for about 35 dollars less than the cap for one bottle.

Why does this thing have to be connected to the internet? Why not just an electronic timer in the cap for the last time it was opened to set off an alarm based on the prescribed dosage? What if you leave it at home and are too late anyhow? Gee! I must be STUPID! In fact, I must be so stupid, I'll go right out and buy 50 of these things! HAHAHAHA! Cheer up Mr. Inventor...there's a sucker born every second.

I think i would go with having a timer (watch) rather than the glowing stuff.

I geuss they have never heard of a pill box. They have so many different designs ranging from one week and to upwards of a month. I mean what a stupid way to trick seniors.

Great idea, but price point is way to high. Should be around $35
    • Granna  •  2 years 7 months ago
Great idea, but certainly not affordable, especially in this economy! My husband and I each take 4 daily medications. There's no way we could spend $800 for these. We'll just keep using our little plastic daily dose containers, thank you.

    • Kevin m  •  2 years 7 months ago

    • Tammi  •  2 years 7 months ago
The cost is more than I expected, especially in this economy.
    • Margarita  •  2 years 7 months ago
Why is a charge? The most people who forget to take their Medications are the Eldery ones and with this economic situation this is the last thing we need; Pay for something that could save your live but if you have no money you can't have it, it is also another resource and most of the retail pharmacies have it the TALKING BOTTLE and it is FREE, I'm a Presciption Coordinator and have 120 patients who depends on me for FREE MEDICATIONS.

I imagine that a whole lot more than "half a million people take at least one pill a day." If that were the case, then pharmaceuticals would not be as lucrative an industry.
    • Chad S  •  2 years 7 months ago
Nice, but.... how many old people have internet capabilities.
    • Lynn  •  2 years 7 months ago
A product like this came out several years ago but the cost kept people from using it.

You understand don't you? Completely depending on where you live geophysically apropos weather community survival stress, etc/, such a venue of pills could be (for example) be fuel for the raver communities and subcultures. Good Intentions are typicly a paved highway to hell. Be VERY CAREFUL on what you promote and why. One person's pain is not always another person's medicine and vice versa. /S/
